I need some advice.
I want to install a secondary ADSL line and dedicate it to running our VOIP phone system.
The problem I have is I need a static IP on that line too.
Static IP's are normaly just provided on uncapped bussiness lines and I dont want to do that for the +-2-3GB monthly traffic that the VOIP line will carry.
Does Telkom provide a static IP to their normal Capped accounts(Soft-cap now).
I am willing to pay extra for that service if they provide something like that.

I'm with MickeyD on this one.
You are going to have to talk to them.
Are you sure about your VOIP needing a static address?
Granted I use VOIP at home as a single user but I don't need to have a static address.
Sorry if I am completely wrong

Regards

Tim

Thx for the feedback.
Yes Im sure about it it's connected to a hosted exchange and needs a static IP to be allowed access through the firewall.
Mweb has a solution that provides 10GB and a static IP for R369 pm

Hi Again,
If Mweb can do it I would look at that. Of course you need to get the Telkom response as well. 10GB at that price is also pretty good value but you don't want to "throw away" the 7gb that you think you won't be using. Maybe you could put a small amount of other traffic through it as well.

Regards Tim

I just signed up to Telkom ADSL and took their "free" router option

I noted down my IP address on who.is and rebooted my router and shock, horror it looks like I am on a static IP address

Can someone confirm or deny that Telkom home ADSL users are assigned a static IP?

Call me paranoid but I prefer dynamic IP addresses

I'm on dynamic.
In my experience, You need to switch off you router for a minute or 3 for the ip address to change.

Thanks RoMark. I later picked up that the router has to be off for a period of time for the IP to change

Not yet, but it is in the pipeline.

No ADSL IP address in SA is static. All static IP address solutions for ADSL in SA at present rely on running a tunnel over the dynamic IP to a service provider's tunnel broker.
