Dear Customer, a telkom technician has been dispatched to install your telephone line for your order (xxx) today. Your continued support is appreciated. For enquiries please call 10210. Regards, Telkom.

That was at 8:30 this morning. It's now almost 4 hours later, and no "telkom technician". Is this normal?

I don't really have 40 minutes (nor enough airtime) to hold on when calling 10210.

Telkom usually phone you a day or 2 ahead to confirm the technician is coming to your house on the said day.

On the day of actual installation the technician will call you when he is on his way. This can be anything form 07h30 to 17h00

Yes this is normal. I got phoned 3 weeks ago and they said that they would be there 2 weeks ago. I actually phoned 10210 at 1pm that day and said "Hey, whatsup?" and the guy responded by saying that someone would be there by 4pm. No one pitched. I then contacted TelkomZA 2 weeks ago who said that someone would pitch this past Monday. No one pitched. i went into a Telkom store last night and after 45 minutes, got told that someone will come this Friday.

Lastly, this is for a line I ordered last year March.

i got my voice line installed in a week. For my ADSL i waited around 14 Months for Telkom i have no clue why i waited so damn long. This was all about 5 years ago so was kinda new to the whole ADSL scene. My friend told me WebAfrica sorts your line installation out and then manages the DSL line so i was like ok cool phone them tell them the story. I had to cancel the pending ADSL install with Telkom so Webafrica can proceed. It took 1 week to get ADSL from them. So what im trying to say is don't rely on Telkom get an ISP to manage and install your line they have direct contact with Telkom so things get done alot faster and the line is cheaper then Telkom.

Got my line and adsl installed after 5 days, maybe they put priority on business clients.

Okay, so basically, it may or may not eventually happen at some point. *sigh*

EDIT: The Telkom technician just arrived! :)

EDIT2: And there is apparently no "draw wire" (I have no idea what that means) at the Telkom box for my flat, so they can't do anything. So I guess that's the end of that. I was happy for all of 3 minutes.

Draw wire is a wire or string that gets pulled into a conduit, so when Telkom needs to pull a cable from your flat to wherever the distribution board is they use the draw wire.

Technically they can do it without one, just requires a heck of work depending on the situation. Most Telkom techs don't care enough to do it.

EDIT: They attach their Telkom cable to the draw wire and then pull the draw wire out the other side to get the cable into the conduit and out the other side.

They installed mine today... Finally. After a fscking month and a half. But the router is now in a "connecting" state forever. I don't know what to do from here on out, I reboot the router as well.

This was after a line transfer to the new property so I didn't change any settings on the router.

They said that it is syncing and the Internet icon on the router is green but what now?
