Can Somebody please help me?

I run my business via Citrix to Aus. I have a SMC7204BRA Barricade Modem. It was working fine for a year and recently I've been experiencing connectivity problems.

After a long debate with Telkom I finallay found out that they have decided to change their line configuration hence my modem does not connect anymore.

The new Telkom spec are as follows:-

2.048 Mhz Upstream
640 Kb Downstream
Max Signal Noise is 31 Up & Downstream

I need a patch to allow me to synchronize at 640Kb Downstream and 384Kb Upstream. The targetted max synchronization to noise ratio must be 12.

Why I need the match is because. When I asked Telkom to reset my line like is was before guess what I get a link immediately.

I would appreciate if anybody can assist me.

Many thanks.

Pirtek

I have no idea what the above means/how to fix it but can they legaly change your line configoration - you bought a modem which worked now it doesn't - because of them therefore they fix it :o

I think this thread would be likely to catch more attention in the Telkomonopoly ADSL Technical forum ;).

Not that I know what I am talking about here, but does your ADSL modem have line synch options like Fast Path, Inter[leaved]whatsit what VCI/VPI do you currently have it set to?

Pirtek, I had the exact same problem. What you need to do is take the modem back to whoever you bought it from, mine came from storgate who upgraded the firmware to version 1.03 (not downloadable from SMCs site) and since then it works like a charm again.

That is it. I have seen a 1.04 firmware update from a google search, but I havent tried to update as I am not having problem at the moment.

Any ADSL modem should be able to cope with whatever line configuration is set on the DSLAM side in the exchange as governed by the G.Lite ADSL specs from the ITU (the UN affiliated International Telecommunications Union).

Telkom can change/tweak the line configuration as allowed by the specs and your modem should be able to cope unless it is useless piece of crap :).

But sometimes the modem/routers and even the DSLAM's themselves have bugs in their firmware which sometimes causes one particular model to have major problems if the configuration is changed.

At the end of the day it rests with the manufacturer of your brand of modem/router to fix the problem in their firmware.

I dont understand this either? max 31db is better than max 12db, max 31db can still perfectly handle something that needs 12db? lol
