I have logged a fault with Telkom because:

1. My 4 MB line randomly drops about once or twice a day. It does not lose sync but on the Netgear Router it says "LCP down LCP not allowed to come up". I don't get an IP at this stage although the line is syncing.

2. In the last week I have been getting extreme packet loss and lag whilst playing on Xbox Live. This happens even if I play in locally hosted games or I host a game. If I host the whole lobby will sometimes crash. It was never this bad.

Telkom said that they will be sending out a techie to my house to check everything.

My question to you guys is what should I ask him to check for me.

Ask him to check your noise ratio's, sync speeds, change your dslam, check your filter, show him stats you have (if any) proving the drops - your line might be "ok" when he gets there.

Also tell him to check the physical connection of your line in the box, a friend of mine had the same issues you had, turns out the wire was loose inside the box and sometimes (if there was rough wind etc) will get the wire to disconnect/reconnect randomly

When techies install new people's lines, they tend to **** up old people's lines. Had several issues with this where they'd just disconnect entire lines leaving one of my clients crippled without fax or ADSL for a week

All I can say is good luck getting this sorted. I have also had numerous issues the same. Eventually upgraded the Netgear to some Custom Firmware and changed some settings on it and now I don't get the drops anymore although my line is still not very stable in the speed department, but I guess this can be congestion related.

Lol funny you would think because we paying for a service it should be given with no faults... When you dont ay helkom for a month then they start raddling themselfs because they need payment.... Oh well getting my ADSL today so hopefully the Chop techie will be able to do a good job first time round.... I use to have a 4 meg line in my old place JHB and never did i have any problems speed was good serivce was always running... Could be because i was 500M from the Exchange ?? hope PTA is the same
