Do they need to physically install a copper wire to your premises, or do they just need to enable an existing line?

Just enable at exchange - or whatever they do, there was a line in the flat previously all cables and even phone still there from previous tenant, just not active

Ok then the time they've given you is ridiculous. Although they will deny it, I know for a fact that the call centre has the ability to enable a phone line remotely without even sending out a technician. They did it at the place I just moved to that had a phone line already installed in Cape Town. There should be no need to even send out a technician.

Just prepare yourself for more headaches if you going onto a growing list of already oversold exchanges ...

A good friend of mine waited over a year to get his phone line and ADSL in his flat activated. The flat he moved into previously had ADSL, so they just had to activate it, there were even still filters on the phone ports.

I had a problem with my ADSL line about 2 weeks ago I stay in milnerton area , I called the call centre and got a reference no , and received a sms that a techie is working on the problem 15 min later the techie called me to confirm that he cant find nothing wrong with my line , but how ever he said he will pop in by me to check if he can find something else that is wrong , I waited about 1 hour later and he arrived he checked my line with his modem and all worked fine and he told me the problem is my modem .Lucky my modem was still under warranty and I went to change it , One hour later I was back online . I`m sure I was just lucky to get this good service from telkom,

Does anyone know how I could possible rectify this - I am looking at 40 working days for line installation which is ridiculous - then need to still order adsl line who knows how long that will take, is there a complaints line cause their general call centre people are no help at all.
