I applied for a telkom adsl line instalation at a telkom office the 7th of may.The technician came out on the 27th of may.I was present he tested the current line and said there was a problem on the telephone pole. Then he tried to shook the pole and pressed against it with he's ladder, said it wasnt't sterdy enough and need to be repalced. Then I asked him twice who is responsible for the charge of this new pole to be installed. He replied twice it is telkom's property and they are liable for the costs. Now
I received a bill thats says i have to pay R523 for this new pole. The pole is in the yard where i am staying but,all the neighbour's telehone lines runes from this pole.I also have to add that i didn't request the new pole to be installed.

I am new to the forum hope i didn't leave anything out.

No, the pole is most definitely NOT your responsibility.

Are you sure the cost is not for the total line installation?

Agreed, Mickey. That sounds suspiciously like the cost for a new line installation.

If they say the pole is your responsibility then threaten to cut it down as it is imposing on your property. Watch Telkom stress as all your neighbors complain :)

But it does sound like new line charge tbh :P

R523 is cheap for a new pole installation so the charge is for something else.

lol, someone is taking the piss. I had a wooden pole in my yard. They came and replaced it with steel pole 2 years ago. No charge. There would have been a **** storm if they tried to charge me. It's Telkom infrastructure if anything they should be paying us rent for the pole. Or at least a small discount.
