Hi

Some time ago I complained on the forum about Telkom not being able to give me ADSL service since I was more than 5km from their exchange.

Well, thanks to some forum members (you know who you are) and Telkom staff (Hayden Osborne and Shane Nel) in East London, I have ADSL. When we had a small problem, the technies were on site within the hour and sorted out the issue (which was on their side).

So, once again, well done, Telkom

Now if only I can get them to sort out my ADSL which has been down since 30 Nov....I'm in Riverclub in Sandton.
Been given every excuse from fault in the line, to putting a new cable, cable theft, problems at the exchange etc.
Could you PM me on who can help me out.

Telkom dude has just left here 5 minutes ago after fixing a connecting box on top of a pole that the monkeys had taken an interest in (They probably though there was spaghetti in them there box).
He's level of service is always exceptional.
Munster area, KZN.

I've noticed a general trend... it seems that their service levels in the coastal provinces are better than that in the landlocked provinces.

The closer to the sea, the better!

well I ordered my 4mb line on friday, and cancelled my closer package at the same time. I have phoned a few people and response times from the help desk were pretty much instantanious after their options menu. The people were friendly and knowledgable. My only gripe is that neither has been done. I was told at the Telkom Direct shop that its with somebody, so should happen soon, but if its just something they change on their side, couldnt they give a more accurate ETA?

But in tune with the thread, as I said, great helpdesk. If someone knows who to talk to directly wrt to upgrade and cancellation, it would be very much appreciated. I am scared its Christmas so I wont get it now, but if I could it would be great.

Telkom have been exceptional since installing my ADSL line two months back. Call centre staff are incredibly friendly and helpful, and the techies were able to sort out problems quickly and efficiently.

Well done Telkom!!! :D

Seems weird saying that, as it isn't the Telkom I remember. It must be competition that made them jack themselves up.

got my 4mb line on tuesday midday, ordered on friday, within their timeframe, so ya, well done Telkom :D

If only I could get this right...

We have had the WORST ADSL connection in Benoni for the last 4 years. It is only 384 kbps, and most often not even that. It frequently cuts out, especially if there is a storm or cold weather. We have logged literally hundreds of faults - some are just closed, some eventually result in a techie coming out, none have ever given us a decent line. The voice line is terrible too, showing that the line quality is shocking. This has cost us a fortune in time and money (as every time we have an outage we move to a 3G connection.

We have some very nice technicians out here (Telkom is bad, but their technicians are typically helpful) and they have explained to us we are around 7kms from exchange and the lines are really old. But how do I get them to replace our lines? I suspect the problem may even stem from the most immediate link to our house, as we had a longer period of outage which turned out to be a problem with our cable. The technician switched us to the "backup line" so nothing was replaced.

In simple terms our problem is that our line is bad but not broken, so they will do nothing to fix it.

I have given up - we are now moving to Cell C's wireless internet. But this also has problems and I would still love a decent ADSL line for stability.

How did you manage to motivate Telkom to get your line right?
