Can anyone tell me or has bought the new Telkom UCAM330 webcam.

The specs sound fantastic with a resolutions of up to 12MP still and 2MP videos, built-in mic & face recognition as well (hope it works for black faces).

What I wanna find out is the chipset on these webcams to find out if it’s UVC compliant or not. A non-UVC compliant will give me issue with driver on Linux. I just don’t wanna blindly buy something that might disappoint me, if I cannot use it.

If you have a laptop with Linux installed, take it with, and ask to first check compatibility with your OS.

System Requirements
Windows98se/2000/XP/Vista
•100Mhz Pentium processor above
•≥32 MB memory ( 64 MB recommended)
•≥20 MB hard disk
•2D/3D display card with a minimum 32 MRAM and support above 16 bit color
•≥ 4X speed CD-ROM, a suitable USB port

They say nothing about linux, but as linux users will claim - everything works with linux 'cause it's free...

+1 to Nod's reply ;)

Actually a piece ao bull w.r.t. the driver availability. There are absolutely no drivers available for this device to make use of its full capability in Windows and the bundled AMCap software is 8 years out of date. :(
The standard USB driver that Windows detects and installs only gives basic webcam functionality up to 640x480 VGA resolution.
I've tried other brand name drivers like HP, Logitech, Microsoft Lifeview that supports the same advertised 2MP/12MP resolutions, but doesn't work. :(
Anyone else had any luck with this?
