Telkom unbelievable incompetence

I had already called the Telkom hot line but they kept asking about cable theft and whether any Telkom employee had asked me for money to fix a fault. Once they heard I was due to see the Commercial Branch, seemed not so interested and put down the phone before I had finished.

Went to see Detective Inspector JvR in Wale Street today. Appointment at 10h00, he turned up at 11h15, As soon as he heard about Moosa and Singh, said "oh yes" and seemed to lose interest. He recorded the whole interview with his little Olympus dictaphone and at the end said. "we might call on you at some time" shook my hand and started to make calls on his mobile phone.

As far as I am concerned, we have not lost out, have not paid any excessive amount for what we have received, so there seems little purpose getting hot under the collar for a fraud attempt which I diverted.

In the past week alone, we have received over 130 emails from "banks" and scam artists trying to prise money from us. So what is new, the whole country is corrupt from the street sweeper to the president, with his willy hanging out, the way the law is interpreted is a direct invitation to steal and embezzle, so why bother about some con artist who didn't make the grade this time?

Maybe this is a time to give up. It was Sandton Fraud unit in the past with good record. Looks like they picked up something big and unit was dissolved despite of public protests.

My best/worst with Telkom is how whenever you ask the phone operator to speak to their manager, there is never one available. I have begged and pleaded to speak to a manager and nothing.

And dont even try and find out where their offices are to go directly there to discuss your problems, the simply tell you know they wont tell you were there office is. No address on the internet either.

I once out of desperation went to a Telkom shop to resolve a issue only to have them hand me a hand set and dialing Telkom helpdesk. After sitting on the phone with the help desk agent for 30 minutes(after the shop closed) and having the agent "drop" the call in my ear I slammed the phone so hard into the table that their phone split into pieces.

The irony of the whole story is two fold.

Firstly, after leaving the shop and getting into my car my cell phone rang and it was a call from a external company that does client satisfaction research for Telkom. The first word out the guys mouth was "I'm from **** company and would like to know if your happy with your service from Telkom?"

Secondly, the next morning bright and early the Telkom engineer was at my door and the problem sorted within 10 minutes of him getting there.

Sad really that it has to come to that.
