Hi guys

I'm being pushed into corner now with regards to wanting to have a 2mbs uncapped account and fiances being limited.

Are their any telkom 1mbs uncapped account holders that can vouch how strict their FUP is?

Because if the telkom call center tech is right then the 2mbs uncapped account will be shaped to 600kbs during 6am-6pm and 800kbs from 6pm to 10pm and only after 10pm will you get full line speed?

But does this always happen?

From what I heard from others is that the throttling only applies to international access, rather go for an afrihost bundle and you might just get more speed for the same price with a decent throttle limit.

There's no FUP with Telkom. I had the 1meg trial account for about 6 months. They honestly don't care as they pretty much own the internet in SA :D

Thank you for the replies

Hope there can be more :) to help calm my nerves haha

But the guy also told me that if I'm a new subscriber I will get 2mbs immediately whereas current 384kbs and 1mbs holders will have to wait to be upgraded

Will only get the upgrade to 2Mb uncapped next week but my 1Mb uncapped has never been throttled since signing up last October, mind you I'm not on a congested exchange.

ok this is a bit of resurrecting a golden oldie here..

but again: telkom 1Mb uncapped: how is the shaping?
ok maybe not shaping, but how does the speed restrictions work?

the website says:
Speed Restrictions
6am - 6pm: up to 295 kbps
6pm - 10pm: up to 354 kbps
10pm - 6am: up to 1 mbps
No restriction on local data

what does that all mean? " no restriction on local data"...
i sometimes work from home- will my email syncing and fetching big docs off the server at the offices suffer the speed restrictions?
i'm on the 2Mb line currently, and honestly I do not get anywhere near the speeds i should be getting.. its been as slow as a 1Mb line ( under 100kBps download speed), so I probably could do with 1Mb line speed, uncapped.. that is: is the speed restrictions do not severely effect me!
its local connections to the work servers etc.. so I gather the restrictions would not apply? or would they?any experiences?

i know that.
thats what local means dude.... but just checking if its local browsing or other type traffic as well thats unrestricted.
