Telkom union slammed

06/02/2006 21:55 PM

ohannesburg - The SA Communication Union has criticised the coalition formed by Solidarity and the Communications Workers Union to represent Telkom workers.

Jannie Volschenk, Sacu's general secretary, said on Monday that the coalition was not in the best interest of workers.

Volschenk said: "The CWU is embarking on rejecting any offer brought to the table by Telkom without mandating members."

He said the coalition was creating havoc at Telkom.

Solidarity had halted substantive negotiations both Sacu and Solidarity had held with Telkom as part of the Alliance of Telkom Unions (ATU).

"The ATU was required to respond to the company's opening offer. However the ATU alliance partner, Solidarity, derailed the negotiations.

"They said they had concluded a coalition agreement with CWU and thus were unable to consolidate the ATU mandate received from our membership."

Volschenk said the coalition was not recognised by Telkom.

"They said this coalition is for a bigger political gain, so it won't benefit the employees."

SACU was mobilising members and informing Telkom about the impact of the new coalition, Volschenk said.

Interesting. Some people hate Solidarity and other love them. They are very strong though...

Somebody should sponsor them free Hellkom T-shirts. That should liven up things even more

Telkom finds itself in a crappy position.
They are trying to reduce costs, hence, rentrenchments but on the other hand expanding their business and trying to improve service. They are fu<ked either way you look at it. Then you add SNO and EASSY cable, followed by a waste of time (and in my opinion, moronic idea) venture into IPTV, will see Telkom sink deeper and deeper into their pile of **** that they currently find themselves in. You go Telkom, not long now. Bunch of monkeys!

Unions!!!! Do not negotiate, not a single job cut, STRIKE, bring Telkom to it's knees!!! Enough is enough!!! And no back handers!!!
