ohannesburg - The SA Communication Union has criticised the coalition formed by Solidarity and the Communications Workers Union to represent Telkom workers.
Jannie Volschenk, Sacu's general secretary, said on Monday that the coalition was not in the best interest of workers.
Volschenk said: "The CWU is embarking on rejecting any offer brought to the table by Telkom without mandating members."
He said the coalition was creating havoc at Telkom.
Solidarity had halted substantive negotiations both Sacu and Solidarity had held with Telkom as part of the Alliance of Telkom Unions (ATU).
"The ATU was required to respond to the company's opening offer. However the ATU alliance partner, Solidarity, derailed the negotiations.
"They said they had concluded a coalition agreement with CWU and thus were unable to consolidate the ATU mandate received from our membership."
Volschenk said the coalition was not recognised by Telkom.
"They said this coalition is for a bigger political gain, so it won't benefit the employees."
SACU was mobilising members and informing Telkom about the impact of the new coalition, Volschenk said.
