MTN buys Telkom. Vodafone buys Vodacom. Not going to happen.
Whatever will BEE will BEE.
Whatever will BEE will BEE.
Correct, even when I was still employed there, they seemed to like to want SBC and co to take them over i.e. sell but as usual nothing happens. It's a way to seem like they want to sell, but it won't be realised. The same thing happened a couple of years ago when they went on the NY stock exchange, all the rumours were there that they would sell, but figarol happened
Well, as long as crazy Chinese Mathematicians in Telkom gets retrenched when the deal goes thru, and the prices actually drop alot more !.
If Telkodemonopolies ever does sell its 50% of Vodacom to Vodafone, after the dust settles, there would definitely be a BEE sale of Vodacom shares held by Vodafone.MTN buys Telkom. Vodafone buys Vodacom. Not going to happen.
Whatever will BEE will BEE.
Translation:The way would be opened for government’s new broadband baby Infraco, second network operator Neotel and Sentech to drive the government’s telecoms agenda.

It is strange how everyone who hates Telkom suddenly whistles a different tune when they realize it isn't such a good idea to get rid of Telkom. That would mean MTN would own Telkom and Vodafone will belong to the Brits. In my books that means even less competition.
Anyway, I cant see a deal like that being approved. I mean, Telkom (telecommunications) buying BCX (IT) was block because it would strangle competition. How then could MTN (telecommunications) buy Telkom (telecommunications) without killing competition. Oh, I forgot. It only counts if the ruling is against Telkom.
Sheesh! Most definately works for Telkom... sayting a statment like that...It is strange how everyone who hates Telkom suddenly whistles a different tune when they realize it isn't such a good idea to get rid of Telkom. Arguably yes, the telecoms sector would approximately balance out to the way it currently is, except that MTN would have a considerable fibre optic and operating cost reduction advantage over both Vodacom and CellC, but as we all know, all is currently not well with SA's telecoms sector, and selling off 50% of Vodacom does not fix the problem that is Telkodemonopolies, so allowing MTN to effectively become the new de facto fixed line monopoly [rebranded Telkodemonopolies], is likely to make the Competition Tribunal very unhappy - not to mention the rest of SA.I cannot see why this should be blocked by the Competition comision. Telkom currenly holds a 50% stake in vodacom, so if Telkom is bought by MTN then it should add all up to the same it is today.
How is it ironic? Is Telkom in charge of LLU?Legislation says that cellular operators many not have shares in each other hence Telkom wanting to sell the 50% stake in Vodacom to Vodaphone.
It's ironic that before Telkom gets fixed line competition or the local loop is unbundled it looks like it will be sold itself.
Methinks you underestimate guavamint's self-enrichment agenda: the sale of Telkodemonopolies' 50% of Vodacom to Vodafone will cause billions of foreign investment to flow into SA, and since guavamint owns ~38% of Telkodemonopolies, guavamint will get a huge payout from the sale of Vodacom.I read thru this thread and would like to point out some wrongfull posts.
1. If MTN was to buy Telkom it has nothing to do with the competition comission. MTN is buying the Fixed line section which is in competition with Neotel. The Vodacom stake is being sold so MTN will have no binds with Vodacom.
2. Telkom cannot be bought by a Foreign company as Government won't allow a foreign company more than 50% stake in a SA company.
3. Same goes for the Vodacom deal. Goverment won't allow Vodaphone to buy the other 50% stake in Vodacom.
This being said. There is 2 companies in the race for buying Telkom.
Vodacom vs MTN
TBH Vodacom doesn't have the money that MTN has. This being said I can clearly see only 1 winner in the Telkom bid. However MTN will only go up to a price Business viable, If Vodacom was to outbid MTN it would be at a loss for Vodacom.
just my 2c
/ Looking at the nice share price on my MTN shares![]()

Just picture guavamint's gravytrain going orgasmic with pleasure from the sale of that 50%...
