use the line for adsl internet access and not for calling. I have
also not gone above my cap. I just received a voicemail/call
from Telkom saying i have reached my R2000 credit limit. How the
hell did my adsl come to R2000.

Someone please explain.

R329 + R329 =R648 for DSL line rental
R440 ADSL installation
R90 +R90 =R180 telephone line rental
R199 +R199 = R398 for isp


maybe some line installation charges....
 
sounds like a big mistake or you dont have adsl? ;-)

Should be able to sort it out quickly.

The R2000 limit sounds like dialup limiting your usage, that doesnt apply to adsl.
 
no...i definately have adsl, well thats what i applied for and am
paying for i also checked my bandwidth usage and i have not
overdone it...I am going to ask them for a detailed bill...anyone
had this problem before...telkom suck really...i have lost my patience with
them.
 
Remember that Telkom charges for services 30 days in advance.
Most likely it is your ADSL installation fees and voice calls that is going beyond the limit.
 
same thing happened to me, big shock it was to me when I got the "you've reached your limit" call . Saw the phone bill and it still didn't make sense to me. I'm gonna query it anyway when I have time to stand in those long lines.

I phoned them today and requested a detailed bill, they faxed it to me:
It sort of makes sense except for the fact that i applied for a 2 year contract
and that should include the modem but they did not take that into consideration.

Are you sure you took a 2 yr contract? Cos you paid them for a s#!++y usb modem.

My brother in law (idiot) took a 2 yr contract and they gave him the modem
 
I have a similar issue. Thing is i was TOLD by Telkom that if i signed up for ADSL before 1st August installation would be half price (IE:R202). They subsequently billed me in pretty much the same manner as you were (only i bought my own modem caus their modem is ****). I am busy fighting with them about it but i have a sinking feeling i will have to pay regardless.....i mean who else can i go to if they decide to cut me off?

And what the HELL is that R255.79 installation cost???? I also got that. I knew about the R404.00 (which was supposed to be half!) but i have no clue why they are charging R255.79 excl vat.????? Can anyone enlighten me?

I already had a telkom line installed so it can't be that. In FACT i had a pre paid package thing and when i ordered ADSL they said i HAD to have a normal line so they converted it to a normal line (It shows up on my invoice but as a R0 charge which is right). When i ordered it i was on the phone for 2 hours 45 minutes.....i actually timed it. I mean **** nearly 3 hours of my life stolen?????? And she still managed to cock it up in every way!!!!! The person i was dealing with was the THICKEST individual on this planet! My adsl was installed and worked PERFECTLY then over a week later i picked up my phone and i got that message saying i needed to put in a recharge voucher!!!!! I phoned Telkom and yes, they had told me they had changed it from pre-paid but they actually hadn't. So i had ADSL on my prepaid line. Took me aaagggeeesss on the phone to get them to fix it!
 
the R255 is for analog line installation and the R404 for adsl connection on top of that.. Its retarded I know. Btw, did you have an active line before getting adsl? If so, then that should not have been billed.

Converting to normal line they charge you installation of analog line ie. R255 , thats just the way they do it ;/
 
Yeah i had an active line before getting the ADSL. On my statement under installations it says: "Transfer: R0" and THEY told me it was no charge to convert back from pre-paid to normal. I only converted to pre-paid not so long ago but the month i converted they increased their pre-paid rental so it was actually a huge waste of time.
 
I suggest that you give them their cr@ppy USB modem back, make sure you're not on a 2 year contract, and buy your own modem/router.
 
i bought a usb mecer modem for my dad yesterday and its 475 from a pc shop in northgate

and that modem is good

dont sign a contract with them though, you dont wanna be locked for 2 years thats long if it was one year fine but 2 is way to long hehe
