My line rental is with telkom, I'm on one of those do basic packages.
And I have an Afrihost capped 50GB package.

Ever since I got ADSL I have had issues when using telkom/vox/incredible as ISP.
It is especially prevalent when using telkom.

Everything will work and then something "crashes" the router.
I will get "limited connectivity" in windows, WiFi connection but no internet access, or no WiFi connection at all until I reboot the router.
At first I thought it was the router, so I bought a new one, tried a friend's one and still the same issues.

Now that I have had Afrihost for 3 months, I cannot recall having to reboot the router once!
So yesterday I switch to telkom again (since I have the 5GB part of the bundle) and I had to reboot the router twice, and again this morning.

Is it a router setting?
Are telkom, vox and incredible all using IS and it is an IS issue?

Yup, was on Fat Pipe
Though I left Vox because of billing issues on their side that took months to be resolved.

None of the ISPs you mentioned use IS.

Telkom uses SAIX. VOX uses VOX. Afrihost uses MTN.

Why would you think it's an IS issue? :wtf:

Edited: VOX uses IS for Uncapped.

I was mistaken about IS then.
Incredible uses IS, and VOX had that star rating system that IS uses, so I assumed they were on IS as well.

Long story short,
Afrihost = no router issues
Others = router crash/freeze issues

So I don't think it is line issues.
Last month I did in excess of 100GB on Afrihost (was on 60Gb and then had to increase to 100GB) with no issues.
Change to Telkom and immediately I have issues.

What has vox fat pipe vs uncapped got to do with it?
I was on fat pipe, had issues.

Vox capped products do not use a star rating.
Have you checked if the accounts they're connecting you to are at the correct speed?

VOX uncapped uses IS, while their fatpipe products use their own backbone.

VOX uncapped are basically just resold IS accounts. COMPLETELY different from their capped stuff.

I was on Vox last in January, I cannot remember exactly about the star rating.
But I was on fat pipe for sure

The problems you're mentioning make me think you've been provisioned on the incorrect line speed.
But that is a very vague guess based on past experience.

That might be possible.
The telkom line checker shows that my current speed is 4Mbps(I bloody wish) but the 'Maximum line speed in your area' is 2Mbps(which I have).

Have you checked your router stats?
It may be that your line couldn't sync at the higher speed before.
Have you checked those accounts that gave you problems before?

How many devices do you have using the internet connection? Are they all on WiFi? Have you tried connecting via a LAN cable and disabling WiFi for a bit? If you have more than one device, have you tried switching all but one off at a time?

(I have seen some incompatibilities between different WiFi chipsets, where sometimes one WiFi client device can cause specific models of APs/modems to lock up).

No, I don't think this has anything to do with which ISP you use ... except the remote possibility that someone is DoS'ing your modem, and maybe Afrihost blocks in-bound traffic by default (I doubt they do, but that is about the only other possible explanation).

Can you supply the detail of the modems (make, model) you used that gave this problem?

Well I've been having the exact opposite experience with Afrihost. Tried using their "live" support earlier today but I'm still waiting for a reply. Their support is honestly a joke right now. Such a pity that all this negative news about Openweb has recently popped up. Otherwise I would have moved to them.
