Telkom wcdma good or not?

Is Telkom wcdma good? I had normal phone line and adsl for some time now, and gave it up cause we moved. So I thought of getting it again, but the wcdma option to be more mobile. But I dont want to get the same pathetic internet as even 3g. What are the speed like, also disconnects? And overall?

Currently it depends on the Telkom 3G coverage in your area as they have not yet signed any roaming agreements with other wireless operators.

I have T3G (data on the move) and I'm extremely happy.

If you do go for it, do not sign any long term contracts, big things are about to happen and you don't want to be tied into a contract. There is a month-to-month option.

Speeds - I max out my E220 modem - see the Telkom 3G sub-forum!
Disconnects - Twice over 9 months
Overall - Very happy but probably due to small number of users on a big network! Time will tell.

It currently does run only on their own 3G network but remember that they do not have full coverage yet, hence they need to sign roaming agreements with the other operators. This is to be able to sell mobile voice services as well. Similar to the agreement between CellC and Vodacom.

As they build more of their own 3G towers or transmitter sites, they will be less dependant on roaming agreements.

Okay just something I think of now, Why dont telkom force us to get telkom 3g then? I didn't check their 3g offers, but I suppose it's more or less the same as mtn and vodacom. Or is it because with wcdma you must have voice too?

Their 3G network uses wcdma technology.

They cannot force you to use 3G but can offer it as a "fixed-wireless" service in high theft areas.

Or else they offer wireless services via Telkom Mobi.

It's cheaper than other wireless operators...
