Hi There,

Telkom offers Free unlimited Wi-Fi access is available on selected Telkom Mobile contract plans and enables subscribers access to the internet at any Telkom Mobile Wi-Fi hotspot for free. I have one of these packages, and I've been trying to set up a second device so that I can access Wi-Fi hotspots using my laptop. I have probably spoken to 10 different Telkom consultants and none have been able to assist me. I'm desperate

I seems from previous posts on the forum that I am not the only one struggling with this as the link given is dead.

Can someone please assist me or point me in the right direction?

Kind regards,

Hennie Oelofse

It's actually very simple. You login to your telkommobile account, and add the second device's MAC address, and fanny's your aunt. (Then when you connect to the wifi hotspot, you tell the device - via the advanced settings, I assume it's a mobile device - to auth via MAC)

Some confusion is around the hotspot to use, and it's not telkomguest. It's 1telkomguest.

And, then, shame on me, you have to wait. Telkom are experiencing technical difficulties, and that particular feature is not working. (I did talk to my guy there) Sorry for the delay. There is currently no way to link a second device as far as I understand. I'll let this thread know when it is available.

Well, that's new, and completely different to the link you posted in this thread.
@OP, try Mickey's method and let us know?
I was following the process in that link. When I got the the "secondary device" I thought... :wtf: ????

Wait, reading what MickeyD says works, means that Telkom have effectively shot themselves in the foot.

The original idea of the secondary device authenticating via mac address was to limit the usage to one (1) other device. This new method lets me do that with many devices. Maybe not simultaneously, but still, it makes it easier for me. And the second thing is, can my many secondary devices now connect simultaneously at different hotspots?

Yes. Two devices can work at different hot spots at the time. Proven by my wife and I ...

Interesting.

Telkom have no clue what they are doing, do they? (I mean that generally, not just with this, although this is a good example...)

They have capacity on their network so why not reward their subscribers? I think it is a much better method than using the MAC address, as users tend to change devices very often.

I agree, but the lack of communication is staggering. Maybe that's why they have extra capacity...
