Telkom Wifi ADSL connection problem to marconi network

Hi,

We have two Mecer laptops at home. Both have been working 100% for the past 16 months to connect via the wireless on the laptops to the Telkom Wifi box(router? ) for the internet and email.

On Tuesday evening I ways typing an email connect via the marconi wireless network connection as per normal when it suddenly disconnected itself.

I at first thought it was the wifi box in the room, but after spending 30mins with Telkom on the line we figured out the problem wasn't from the Telkom side but from the laptop side. It just wasn't picking up the marconi wireless network connection at all!

I had the laptop's wireless card checked out at my work's IT department. They showed me that it connected fine to a pc to pc wireless connection. At home I used the other Mecer laptop (the one Im typing from now) to connect to the internet. It connected 1st time, every time always to the marconi wireless network connection.

Why doesn't the other Mecer laptop pick up the marconi wireless network connection but it can pick up another wireless pc to pc network connection.

Please help!

try reinstall drivers.

you say it connects fine peer to peer. does it connect to a different AP?

Sorry, not familiar with the term AP . But yes, we reinstalled the drivers without success.

Turn the router off for a minute, and then on again. Wait another minute for it to boot and reconnect to the ADSL network.
Reboot laptops, and try reconnecting.

This happens to me pretty regularly. If you're connected physically, via cable, you won't get disconnected, but the wireless connection sometimes just becomes unavailable.

WAP = Wireless Access Point or more commonly referred to as an AP = Access Point

Snorbaard, I followed yr advice with no success. The other mecer still connects 1st time every time.

Skydog, if I understand you correctly, yes they do connect peer to peer through different AP. The 2 laptops each on their own to the wireless router to connect to marconi network connection. And when we peer to peer connected the laptops, we never used the wireless router. We connected peer to peer through My Network Places, Workgroup computers, where the pcs could see each other.

Various virus scans have revealed nothing. Neither has windows updates or deleting and re-installing drivers and devices.
