It seems my area doesn't support ADSL, so I need to get WiMAX.

Does this work the same as a normal ADSL line rental?
ie. I pay the WiMAX R240 pm access fee (line rental) for 'Up to 512 Kbps' speed, and can still use any other ISP as if I had a normal ADSL line?

I have 2 PCs and want to run a local only account on the one, and an international one on the other (simultaneosly). I'll be using the Billion BiPAC 7300G RA ADSL2+ 54MBPS WI-FI Modem / Router, (do I even need a router or does my notebook connect directly to the tower/exchange?)
Is this possible with WiMAX?

Yes, Telkom Wimax is connected directly to the Telkom exchange just like a fixed line ADSL service, so any account that would work with a normal ADSL line will also work with Telkom Wimax. This is not true for IBurst or Screamer Wimax though.

Thanks, so I would still need a wireless router though?

The Wimax device has a single cat 5 cable coming out of it that you can either connect directly to a pc or laptop, or to a broadband router like the Linksys WRT54GL. The Wimax device operates like a bridged modem, so your PC or router will not be assigned an IP address, but instead will have to initiate it's own PPPOE session through the ethernet connection.

You CANNOT use a normal ADSL router with a built in ADSL modem, you need to use a router that has an RJ45 WAN port that you can plug the ethernet cable directly into.

Hope this helps.

Thanks, it helps loads :) what about the Billion I mentioned above? Will this do the trick?

All this after Telkom initially told me I could get ADSL in my area, then after 2 weeks of no contact I phone to check up and suddenly my area doesn't support ADSL anymore, wow, magic!
