Horror of horrors, my parents have been tainted by the telkom brush. I decided to purchase bandwidth for my folks from Afrihost. You know the guys who have brought out the R29 a gigabyte good stuff. Anyway my folks went into telkom in Hilton, KwaZulu Natal to cancel the bandwidth and have it changed over to Afrihost. Paying R70 a gig compared to R29 - it's a no brainer. That was back at the end of September 2009. Next thing my folks get the bill from Telkom. Still being billed for the bandwidth. So they go back to Hilton and speak to the same freaking USELESS employee who says, oh they should have filled in a form to stop the bandwidth. Well why didn't she bother to say that the first time. Kinda DUMB. Anyway my folks fill in the form.

Anyway to make a long story short, I haven't seen my folks online for some time. Like the past 2 weeks or so. It turns out that that rather DUMB employee from telkom instead of terminating the bandwidth, terminated my parents ADSL service. Cancelled the ADSL side. When speaking to my mom about it, she said that the rather DUMB telkom employee at the Hilton, KwaZulu Natal branch made an X next to the part on the form asking for the ASDSL service to be cancelled.

I am not sure when this will be sorted out. Knowing how long telkom takes to do anything, it might be a while before my folks are back online. Perhaps they are doing this on purpose to "punish" those who don't get bandwidth from them anymore.

Oh and one more thing - this rather DUMB employee who stuffed up my parents ADSL line, she might as well be working in a brothel or some place similar, she normally has her neckline down to her waistline. She should not be working for telkom.

I would love to see her replaced with someone who knows the difference between an ADSL line, ADSL access and bandwidth. telkom would be doing itself a favor if they did that. A great service to the community.

On a more positive note = GO AFRIHOST. YOU GUYS ROCK.

To cancel your telkom broadband, dial 10210 and request that they cancel Telkom Internet, not ADSL, the wording is : Telkom Internet.

They will instruct Telkom Internet to cancel the account immediately, which will happen within 5 minutes.

Get an order number for this.

But, Telkom will continue to bill you for the Telkom Internet account until you call them again and raise a dispute with them. The dispute processors will find the service cancellation request on the system, then ask Telkom Internet if the account has been used, once Telkom Internet confirm no usage on the account, you will be fully refunded.

Every time I cancelled with them, exactly the same procedure.

Painful.

This is exactly why I am not telling my folks about the Afrihost deal :(
In the end, they will hold me responsible for not being online anymore, then I have to sort the mess out. And it's not like they live in my town.

Eish, DUMB telkom employee at the Hilton, KwaZulu Natal branch ...
