Who the hell do I phone to get any answers?

I tried to get an adsl line last year, and for almost a year they just told me no ports are available. So I cancelled and tried Wimax, but for some mysterious reason I cannot get Wimax. No I am trying to find out when there will be more ports available in my area. I phoned 10219 who then told me to phone 0800 375 375 who then told me to phone 10219 and ask for technical support. Technical told me to phone services. Services then told me to phone 0800 202 538, who then told me to phone 0800 221 519, which keeps telling me to key in some number or hold for someone, if I hold long enough the phone just cuts out. And when I phoned 0800 221519, a lady was kind enough to put the phone down in my ear after I asked her about ports.

PLEASE CAN ANYONE HELP ME? Is there any alternative to Telkom?

I don't want to leave the country because of Telkom :/ I just want internet sigh

Try CellC. It seems to be the best alternative to fixed line ADSL

Surely he wants to get away from Telkom, not move towards them...

Or mobile broadband with Cell C or the l..., (:erm: no, scrap that) just consider Cell C. The think is the price, depending on planned usage, could work out to be prohibitive.

I want the line for online gaming, so Cell C's 5gb will run out quite fast wont it? Is this the only country on earth where you can't get adsl when you want it?

You didn't pick up on the little error in the quote ;)

Depending on your gambling habits I do think that 5gb will last you for a long time.

I do well with 3gb per month. Playing poker, browsing, light downloading, online gaming and the wife on facebook.

Maybe contact the gambling site's technical department to get a rough estimate on traffic used

What about wireless ISP's in your area ? Cut out the costs to Telkom , only pay for data package.

I've had endless line problems with my ADSL over the last year. I'd been paying through the neck for a 4Mb line, but only got a 2Mb connection that worked some of the time.

I finally got fedup and cancelled my ADSL, and switch to CellC at the beginning of Feb. So far its bliss...

How many hoirs of online gaming can one get with 5 Gb:/ you are lucky to get 2, at our business we have a 4mb line, however , we hardly get 2. So the last guy I phoned told me they are upgrading dslams in my area so I can get adsl end of the month, finally! I hope he is correct. There are no wireless providers in my area that I am aware of :/ having troubles witb telkom is just the way things go, cancelling your line might leave you unable to reactivate it so think carefully before doing so :/ sigh LLU when will you come rescue us :D

In what area do you stay? Might be usefull to go 8ta or one of the other broadband offerings. Have you tried 0800 375 375 ?

Solution

When driving around in your area make a special note to look out for a Telkom van ( they are quite easy to spot )

Go and find the techie and chat to him/her.

Find out where their tech depot is and the name of the area manager
( these people generally like to stay unknown and invisible -- if they were known their lives would become unbearable hell :D )

Take a drive to the tech depot -- tell security you have come to see XYZ

Take along a bottle of something ( could be Coke ) and have a chat with your AREA-MANAGER.

Always works for me ( If I have not already become desperate , partly insane , and given up after talking to the mind drones on the telephone :D)
