The telephone line became very noisy at times when the ADSL dropped frequently, always from around 8am to 9pm. Some days it starts after 9am and continues until 5 or 6pm and sometimes syncs at 400 kbps DL and 512 kbps UL. In the evening it would be fine at 1024/512 for the most part, except ONE (1) disconnection after midnight ...

You have had the same issue I have had, which I've now discovered occurs countrywide. Telkom denies there's a problem.
This is what I have found out by using my contacts and by cornering Telkom technicians.

Telkom, in their infinite wisdom, are replacing the ADSL core equipment... and they don't know what they are doing. They took out the entire Fourways (FWS) exchange for like a week.. They took out my exchange for four days... for 4 days had no ADSL at all, not even carrier.

It is a VERY GOOD thing that Telkom are upgrading their equipment !

I speak under correction -- but you may find that it is NOT actually Telkom doing the work but in fact CONTRACTORS
See if you can find out who it is that is ACTUALLY doing the work -- and what their professional certifications are.

Please let us know

Well yes its likely contractors, a tradition started in the late 1990s when I still worked for Telkom.
there are serious problems in all 10MBps enabled exchanges. I have read on this forum, people describing my issues to a tee...
