I just smelled the coffee!? Since when did the 2GB price drop with R50, I've been paying R199 p/m for my account? I can't understand why there is no mention of this on the forums - do you have to change your current account or will the price drop automatically to R149. Is this AllAccess the new standard packages?

Does this mean i can use the R50 for more beer or biltong though?

I'm confused. I was paying R245/month line rental + R199 for 2GB account = total of R444/month. Now I'm paying R245/month line rental + R149 for 2Gb account = total R394/month - a saving of R50/month.

DoBroadband is going for R364/month - exactly the same components but combined and saves you R80/month. Do I have to apply for a DoBroadband package to get the extra R30/month saving?

2 gigs (shaped) cost R140 from WebAfrica Prepaid. So why the fuss?

A 2 gig account with TelkomInternet will give you about 4 gigs in reality. If you don't need the extra then WebAfrica prepaid is a better option.

the fuss is that Telkom Internet have finally dropped their 2gb price, and we all know that they've always been higher with their ADSL packages. A 25% price decrease is a massive move for the monster.

I have just got off the phone with a TelkomInternet representative and I asked her why doBroadband subscribers get a R30/month greater discount (for 384kbs + 2 gig) than existing TelkomInternet subscribers. She tried to dodge the question by asking if I wanted to subscribe to doBroadband level 2. I told her that I could not see any reason why I should have to go through a complete new process for exactly the same product so that I can get an extra R30/month saving. Why didn't TelkomInternet automatically convert me over to doBroadband level 2 ?. Is that too hard for them to implement? Now they now have the same product at two different rates which must be a bureaucratic nightmare for them let alone a major unnecessary hassle for it's existing subscribers. Needless-to-say, I didn't get any joy from her but it looks as though doBroadband is aimed directly at new subscribers and the existing ones can get stuffed.

Ok screw the Telscum accounts :p But if Telkom ISP clients get a discount, then what of the rest of the market?

They're operating at cost man. If they can pass on savings to their own clients. Then why not wholesale as well? By giving their own clients discounts, they once again puts them in a sales advantage. Competitors who actually buy bandwidth from Telscum again lose out!

Obviously they can sell their products for cheaper - cos in reality, it costs them squat. Because all the normal fixed lines have already paid for their entire broadband infrastructure.

Broadband just fattens the pie - exponentially...

I was surprised myself, when i checked my bank statement and saw it is is R149. BTW i get 8GB + every month on these accounts even 16GB some months

The capping system changed effective this month.

I missed that. In what way did it change?

There is no more relaxed capping.

3GB accounts will be capped at 6GB and 2GB accounts at 4GB - there is also real time tracking now, so a subscriber wont be able to "abuse" their account anymore either.

'ey, thats gonna be bad for me  It was kinda strange that my first 2 accounts got capped early, and i'm not sure what usage i got from it

So now that you save R30 p/month you get hard capped!:p I woulda stuck to forking out the 30 bucks :D
