Okay, I got hardcapped by TelkomInternet this morning.

They changed their story from "moving IP into the shared IP-pool" to "switching off", this month.

Pity, since I joined them this month because of the hopes they would allow local traffic to continue..

May I please ask the community "now what?"

I do not have a backup plan.

I've faxed my cancellation of my DSL and landline services through to 0800-203736 (write them a letter and include some official docs)

Sigh..

Cancellation letter to "them"

To: Telkom SA Fax no: 0800 203 736
Regarding: Cancellation of ADSL & Line

To Whom It May Concern:

Please process the cancellation of all services as from the 31st of December 2005, on 011*******. Please also the cancel the DSL product as from this date.

I’ll have to do away with the frustration of your hardcapping. It’s better to not have connectivity at all, than paying heavily and still feeling burdened each time when accessing the Net…

While any other customers’ speeds are upgraded occasionally, without increasing subscription-fees, without capping or shaping, your company seems determined to “tame” and “mutilate” connectivity and going against all global broadband trends.

With content increasing in quantity, quality and (data)size, and your company introducing more and more restrictions to usage, I fail to comprehend what strategic advantages you are aiming to achieve – except for cashing in quickly.

I feel dearly for your DSL customers wanting to participate and experience the benefits convergence and the Internet is offering elsewhere world-wide.

There is only a small and short window of opportunity for you to come to the realization what harm your restrictions cause, after which damage-control will also be futile. This window is now open for business.

Would it be possible for you to confirm on 083******* once the cancellation is processed and queued so I know this fax is actioned?

Regards,

I feel sorry for you. Do you think anyone is going to accept the FAX.
I will take about three months for you to cancel that account
so you will probaly have to pay for three more months

The awkward thing is, they ask you to fax a letter off, and you cannot confirm, or receive confirmation that the cancellation will be carried out..

I've been told to wait until after the specified date, test the line, and phone them on 10219 if it is still active..

Is that "best practice" ?

Weird stuff...

This is sad...why were you hard capped? That is not right...I am still not hard capped.....but some sites are loading so long I am getting server timeout errors. But not often...

Hey AmaDownload,

How much did you up/download? From what I understand from the very confusing telkominternet e-mail, 'capping' is done in two stages, one move to a share pool and then hardcapping. I'd be interested in knowing how much traffic you generate before getting hardcapped?

It sounds good.
Was this local or international? OK sorry how much of it was local? OK sorry what is local?
Since I am on the roll, is local anything in SA or SAIX/IS or co.za or just my ISP?

Mostly international.

I am downloading the updates for Starwars Galaxies at the moment at about 33kb/s. Please note that that data is being downloaded on a non standard port.
