Telkom's ADSL Threat

I think they've just given the gov sufficient reason, and ammunition, to unbundle the local loop and nationalize SAT3/SAFE. Otherwise Telkom will be blackmailing the nation forever. Why not break up the monopoly full stop?
Coz government's making a fortune..

I think everyone on these forums should submit a story.

Come people, lets give them no option but to run a story!

If you look at ICASA as a body thats actually done some good - then its important to also send them signs of support, so that they know we're appreciating what they did - and to help them maybe NOT blink, or back down from what they know is right.

Even if it costs the temporary disruption or closure of ADSL in SA.

The long term picture is the big thing to focus on. I dont mind going back to dialup, because Telkom have pulled ADSL from the market - and are en route to being smashed into a thousand pieces.

I've sent through a letter to ICASA, ( http://mybroadband.co.za/vb/showthread.php?t=24720 )
showing my support for them - as I think they really need huge quantities of consumers messages helping them stand firm in the face of Telkom's threats.

and I think we all need to send our own letters through to them.
Maybe it wont help them stand firm - but maybe, just maybe, if there's a deluge of positive letters emails and calls from YOU - they'll find the strength to stick by their guns.

If it means Telkom 'take their toy back' - ie: close down ADSL. Fine. So be it. That's not a good enough reason to let Telkom continue as they are.

If Telkom DO shut down ADSL - then its bringing matters to a head - and its only a matter of time , before they're legislated out of existence - or at least, out of being the only company in charge of our Internet.

so umm, lets do the math, 100 000 subscribers * R359 (average price for adsl) + R80 for line = R43 900 000 a month, = 22 months to recover their R1 billion (yea right) secondly these are at the NEW lower prices anyway average price of adsl was much higher due to their not being anything but 512k connections and business dsl, so do the math Steven White you ****ing moron!
