Telkom's newest capping policy

Perhaps you should say SOME competition and leave it at that.

Anyway as far as I'm concerned the reasons for using telkomsa are obvious i.e being able to use as much as 60 gigs for the price of a 3 gig account.

That being said if they are now going to start capping at 6 gigs, as they did to my account this month, Im going to get an account with Openweb who in my oppinion is the only reseller with the creativity to offer Telkomsa any REAL competition.

Well SOME is still better than none.

I am with cheetah-IS and must say i am very happy with them. 3gig/30 for 215 bucks a month, good support, no problems so far, done 34 gigs so far in february on a 192k line.

So the competition is out there if people are willing not to make like mindless automotons and sign up with the monopoly without checking out the other options first.

I know that the prospect of doing 60 gigs plus on a three gig account is exciting but is it worth supporting telkom and going through all this stress of never knowing if/when u are going to be capped/uncapped?

i dont do any gaming at all online but i am gonna have done about 100 gigs up and down by month end as long as IS dont come through on hardcapping after 30 gigs.

Personally I think this is a better option...

Why not avoid all the uncertainty, stop supporting the monster that is telkom, sign up for a 3gig/30 account with either openweb or cheetah or somewhere similar @ around 220 bucks a month?

Then you can leech at least 100 gigs a month, depending on line speed, and as long as IS keeps local uncapped, without all this hassle??

ROFL! Omw. IS has been non stop headaches. Jan and Feb has been the worst so far. Even when i havent reached my 3 gig intl limit, i get 4k/s down internationally. During the day (8AM - 6 or 7PM), IS IS UNUSABLE. You cant game with it, and even the local downloads go at a snails pace 5 - 10k/s.

Im trying to download from their newsgroups right now (1:00PM) and its jumping between 0 and 3k/s

The only time when IS is fine is between around 10 at night to around 6 the next morning. Then you get full speed downloads on torrents and newsgroups. ADSL is a 24hr service! FFS! IS is severely degrading service during the day - to make sure their business users are happy.

I find the "30 gig local" to be very misleading. It should be 30 gig local - but dont ever expect to get any use from ure account during the day, capped or not.

I would rather take my chances with Telkom ISP. Most users get an average of 20 - 25 gigs of QUALITY SAIX SERVICE. Full speed downloads ANY TIME of day, and pings are ALWAYS good. If i do get capped, then i buy another account.

I know im being harsh but Jeez, IS fix your crap DSL service. Launch whatever sattelite u have to, expand ure network, I dont care! Just make it work like it should!

Ok man, maybe i was being a bit hasty but i can only comment on my own personal experiences and they have been good so far...

Generally does slow down during the day , to like 20k/sec, but otherwise i have no complaints to make and as i said b4 i have had no time getting to the 30 gig cap, in just a week.

*edit. Also i had a telkom account when i first got dsl and the international speeds for me where exactly the same as the ones that i get on the 3gig IS cap...

Maybe i am just lucky. Let's not jinx it....Fingers crossed :-P

Same for me. Been getting 60Kb/s local all week so far (512 line). International is still bad though, hopefully they launch the sats soon

I have 2 OpenWeb 2GB accounts. One for local downloads and gaming and one I use when I want to surf international sites. Both of them are very fast. I have no problems so far. Local gaming my pings are around 70. The service from the OpenWEB staff is also very great.

because then you can d/l many GB's, as demonstrated in the last few months.

So it's fine for Telscum to do an unethical thing if it's fine for consumers? What a hypocritical thing to do.
