With that latency, I'd rather stay on my ****ty ADSL.
 
Wish Telkom will put the same efforts into getting the basics right. IMHO they should focus on say getting 10/20Mbps running for everyone as its supposed to and make it available everywhere. Once that is done and the standard then by all means experiment with fiber but first get the bloody basics in place.

That is unless of course they are going to roll out fiber for everyone which I guess is a pipe dream for this country at this stage.

Ummmm.... it's the same infrastructure with the difference being the last connection from the MSAN/ISAM being fibre instead of copper.
 
280ms ping could be from the US even. What CPE are you using?
 
Any reason why your result's timezone is PDT instead of the usual GMT for local tests?
 
This is what I meant earlier with getting the basics right. What is the use of testing fiber if they cannot even get a 2mb line to work as it should. Did this test just now at my mom's place. She has logged around 4 faults already this week and each time they do a port reset and things are back to the way it should be for a couple of hours or a day before the house of cards come crashing down again.

Telkom imo is right up there with Eskom as one of this countries most pathetic companies. As I stated before, never ever will there be another Telkom product near my home, not even if they roll out 100Mbps fiber.
