Some help please,

I need to setup a telnet session between 2 different networks, between Worcester ansd Robertson.

The business got a telkom leased line between the two offices.

There is a cisco router on both ends, one with a ip 192.168.0.1 (worcester) and 192.168.2.1 in Robertson.

The clients in robertson have to connect with telnet to a unix server in worcester with an ip of 192.168.0.20

The routers for internet and lan is netgears in both offices with worcester in an ip range of 192.168.0._ and robertson 192.168.2._

If robertson stays with an ip range of 192.168.2.100 -255 will it give me internet access and a telnet connection?

Is there something else i need or am i completely on base.

Are both these networks, cisco wan & netgear internet, currently up and running or is one of them new?

On Robertson PC :

start -> run -> cmd

then, at the command prompt, type in :

telnet 192.168.0.20

this should telnet you into the Worcester server.

If telnet doesn't work, then the telnet daemon is either firewalled or is not started.

As for internet access... I don't know how the network is setup.

The easiest way is to put a Linux proxy server on Worcester, and have the Robertson clients set their web browsers to use the proxy server on the Worcester network.

BUT! you must use a good, proper firewall in order to minimize incoming traffic from the WWW to the LAN. Failure to do so will result in one PC getting infected with the clap, and then spread it to the rest of the network (Worcester and Robertson).

Thanks for reply,

Worcester is up and running. I got the telnet to work in robertson today but no internet access.

I will test tommorow.

Cant getaway from the unix server. Its an old ford system that they use for invoicing.

Well in the end i just rerouted all traffic on the router for 192.168.0._ to the gateway 192.168.2.1 and walla :)
