Hey guys, guess this will be a short thread for u guys in the know.
I'm having trouble connecting to WinXp pcs on our office network.
I can telnet or use putty to connect to linux and unix pcs, but win xp machines just reply with the middlefinger
I have port 22 enabled in the firewall (for putty ssh), and port 23 telnet is in the firewall exceptions too.
But even with firewall deactivated, I cannot connect into winxp.
What should be enabled / activated, perhaps in admin tools services?
Any advice will be like very much appreciated.

If I remember correctly, it has to be "installed" under add/remove and then at Windows components. Firstly that, and check on the remote desktop application if it allows remote connections.

I see under admin services there is Telnet, that was disabled, so I enabled, and started.
At least now I get a login prompt. (when using PuTTY)
But looks like it needs to be setup, when doing telnet thru CMD

I remember this happening when I studied Windows 2000 Server a long while back. Microsoft disabled in on purpose I think, as a security measure, since Telnet is not secure at all, and they were trying to push Remote Desktop as the best way.

Sometimes you just need the command line though, can do stuff in there you can't otherwise.
