What should system/cpu temp be for a rig with a q6600, 1 hdd , 1 dvd writer, 4gb ddr2 800, 1 8400gs.

I am running this outside of case - so only fan atm is cpu heatsink - what kind of temps would be considered too hot?

Thanks
J

Stock heatsink/cooler - No OC at this time - i'm just a bit worried that I face the prospect of overheating with no other cooling present at this point due to the fact that case is still due to be shipped...

Any ideas what system and cpu temp should be?

Thanks
J

why not tell us what the temp is because we have no idea what it should it

it depends on where the cpu is

Hitting about 45 system and 40 cpu - but thats idle during bootup so I would expect another 5-10 degrees on both during a workload.

I have a b3 stepping with a thermalright 120 and it idles in the high 30's, there you now have a base temp to work from (use core temp for temp readings)

BIOS - atm - pc health option - see the thing is i'm missing 2x 120 and 2x 80 mm fans as my case is still due to arrive - so I'm worried im running a tad hot as it seems to lock up at times during installs etc - if im doing light work its fine , firefox , chat etc - but when i start installing things it seems to hang - just nothing responds - keyboard goes dead etc.

Do not think that is from heat there is something else wrong then. Download core temp and check your temps and then and only then let us know :)

Any mboard diagnostic utilities to see if perhaps the mboard is faulty if its not a heat issue? - or would a POST card be more advisable than a software app?

Any software apps that are reliable for mboard diagnostic tests?

Thanks
J

I will do as soon as I get home - working till 9 then i'll dl it and test on that pc - hope its a heat issue and not a faulty board :(

Thanks
