Tenda pocket mobile wireless router

We are the importers of Tenda products, we unfortunately had to send all these devices back as the issue could not be resolved.

The router will however work on Cell C and 8ta if that is a solution for you.

Alternatively you can return it, they probably were not aware of the issue.

What device would recommend that works on MTN network

I was going to purchase this Router for use with my Vodacom Data SIM... :wtf:

@Scoop: Looking at your webpage now - Maybe you should add a little disclaimer that states 'Only compatible with 8ta & CellC (could save some headaches) ;)
 
So sad you need a frikken extra router when your phone is perfectly capable of handling that itself!

Damn operators and their *** packages that don't allow easy data add ons :mad:

Does CellC not work for you??

We have removed that specific product from our website completely. All the other 3G routers require an external USB modem so there shouldn't be any problems connecting to any provider.

The problem was specific to the built in modem on 3G186R.

Unfortunately the problem only occurred 6 months after the modems were already working in the market so there may be a few out there which may have not been reported as not working yet.

Out if interest, were they ICASA approved? Any further detail on why they stopped working??

Not too sure why they stopped working, weirdly enough though they are still working in the Durban area and surrounds.

If anyone would be able to shed any light on this that would be great. We were unfortunately not able to get too much information between Vodacom, MTN and Tenda.
 
So this is how it went down - I went to MTN at the N1 city yesterday as I wanted to upgrade / transfer my existing 3g sim to my phone - which I can't do! so the guy at MTN suggested I get one of these mobile wireless routers - just so happened that the shop round the corner had one on the shelf, and despite me asking both of them if it works - they both assured me it does. I battled unsuccessfully yesterday (hence the post) to get it to see my SGS2.

so today when my work IT guy popped in, he managed to get it configured to my SGS2. however after you boot up the Tenda the 3g led goes out and that's it. no connection :(

Cell C is not an option for me.

Unfortunately there is no firmware fix for this issue, the routers simply will not work without a hardware modification according to Tenda. It should be easy enough for Sound Tech Computers to replicate the fault and refund you.

spoke to them about it and they said they will check with their supplier? anyway my IT guy says he will try it with his 8ta tonight and if it works if so he will buy it from me.

It works here in CT with both 8ta and CellC. My in-laws have one. The biggest downside I noticed is it has a horribly weak wifi signal, but that might just be because the in-law's might have expected too much from such a small device.

The router was designed as a mobile Wifi connection really for close quarters only with a maximum of 5 client connections. Tenda do not currently have a standard desktop router with a built in modem.
