Tenders

Nothing ventured nothing gained

Have won 2 tenders in the last year and we are only a BBBEE Level 8. If they using the 80/20 tender system you can still win, if your price is right.

That's basically what the government is saying. If you have less black ownership, you will have to come in cheaper, therefore saving money for the state. The flip side of the coin is that they are willing to pay more for services and products from companies with higher black ownership. They are essentially putting a price on black ownership.

Don't have to tell me. I've seen "tender entrepreneurs" with the "right credentials" charging up to 200% more for the same product that we had quoted on. The Guavament is getting ripped a new one and don't even care.

And that is besides not even knowing what they are selling and they cannot offer any after sales support for the products.

If you are a small company or individual with less than R10m turnover per year, you qualify as an Exempted Micro Enterprise (EME) which automatically gives you a level 4 B-BBEE score even if you are lily-white. All you have to do is to download the form for making a sworn affidavit, get it certified at the local police station and you are set. An EME that is 51% black-owned is automatically a level 2 B-BBEE and level 1 at 100% black ownership.

Most public sector tenders specify a minimum B-BBEE level for suppliers to be considered. Keep the above-mentioned EME status in mind as not many people know about it.

Really? Since when? I cannot see this being allowed as it is a pure form of discrimination. I have not done a bid in while, so this is an interesting development.

Its not compulsory but allowed and even encouraged under PPPFA regulations.
