Terre'Blanche, workers 'happy'
2010-04-08 09:54

Marida Fitzpatrick, Beeld
Ventersdorp - Eugene Terre'Blanche, murdered leader of the AWB, had been shopping with two of his farm workers just hours before his death. One of the workers was described as a "young guy" and the other as "in his twenties".

The suspects who have been charged in connection with the murder are 15 and 27 years old.

Terre'Blanche bought a bottle of Bell's whiskey at the Overland bottle store in town that morning, shortly before 10:00.

About half an hour later he returned to the bottle store and bought two cases of Savannas, three 20-packs of Voyager cigarettes and two boxes of matches.

Helped him

An employee of the bottle store said on condition of anonymity that Terre'Blanche arrived at the shop with the two workers on the back of his bakkie.

"They helped him load everything onto the bakkie."

According to the bottle store employee, Terre'Blanche looked "fine, as always".

"He was wearing khaki pants and a 'two-tone' shirt, as always. He talked to me like he always talked to me: 'Hi, how are you?'"

To him it didn't seem like there was any tension or conflict between Terre'Blanche and the workers.

"He was happy and they were happy and everything was okay."

The one worker was reportedly wearing a blue jacket and the other was wearing an overall. "One of them was quite young and the other was a little older."

'He was very good to me'

The man said he was very shocked when he learned of Terre'Blanche's murder on TV the next morning.

"I couldn't believe it. He was very good to me. He came to the bottle store about twice a week. He always bought Bell's; that and Smirnoff vodka. Probably for the stress. But he always bought the small bottles (200ml)."

Police spokesperson Adéle Myburgh said on Wednesday that the police are aware of Terre'Blanche and his two workers' visit to the bottle store "and it is part of the investigation". She declined to comment further.

That same afternoon Terre'Blanche was found dead on his bed where he had been hacked to death with a panga. His pants were pulled down.

The two accused appeared in the Ventersdorp Magistrate's Court on Tuesday and the case has been postponed until April 14.

Bea Terre'Blanche, Terre'Blanche's daughter (and only child), said earlier this week that her father had not yet paid the two suspects for March, but he had made an arrangement with them to pay them after the long weekend.

A businessman from Ventersdorp told Beeld on Wednesday that Terre'Blanche was having financial difficulties.

"Eugene didn't have any money. He bought from me on credit."

He bought *** cigarettes(rather die than smoke that) and couldn't even afford a lighter.

Why is voyager any worse than the expensive brands if i may ask?

I always hear this and wonder to myself if cheap cigi's can possibly be worse? They are cheaper because they are not well known.

this does seem like a wage-dispute got out of control, and not "a message" like others have said with their conspiracies.

If this was a 'wage dispute' Keeper, WHY did they not resolve it instead of attacking the person while asleep? No, I say they were considering murder for a while and Julius Malema encouraged them to carry on with it..........

Jip, you don't take weapons with if you just want to talk.

evidently they were paid to sprung up and said... eish it was us.

Sounds to me like ET was a hypocritm like most of these TAU and their like. How come they have black farm workers if they want a white's only homeland ?

The same reason that firms use call centres in India. It's cheaper.

Do YOU carry a PANGA when going to your boss (and that's assuming you have got a job) when you're unhappy????

You're a knob!!! (TRY) and think a bit for yourself
