Terrible HSDPA and LTE

Hi I live in a supposed LTE zone and have a really good modem. At my work the modem picks up LTE (2bar) and is extremely fast. At home I cannot pick up LTE at all. The other day I managed 1 bar standing on my roof, however, this seems to be gone today. My modem picks up 5 bar hsdpa+ and clocks in download speeds of 28 mbps but my latency hops between 65 and 400 local! For international websites it goes over 1500 ms.
I live in Westdene (Johannesburg) and would like to know if there is a known issue with the tower here (Auckland park I think) as I can't believe any working hardware can be this bad. My lte stick with a Vodacom sim gets lower download speeds 15 mbps but consistent latency of around 40 ms local and 200 to Europe which is way better. My MTN sim card is near pointless so I'd like to know if this is a temporary thing or if I should cancel my MTN before the end of this month.

Is there any point in me trying an antenna or should I just leave MTN and go with Vodacom? If there is a MTN representative could you please tell me if there is a problem with this tower and when it can be expected to be fixed? I did get an sms a few weeks ago telling me that the tower was being upgraded and would be intermittent for a while. Is this still ongoing 2 weeks later?

Has anyone else experienced this pathetic lte or hsdpa from MTN or is it just at my location?

Same situation as you in Westdene, but i am using Telkom Mobile LTE.
