Tesla Powerwall vs generators - South African pricing compared

There's also the Ryobi 2500 W Inverter Generator for R6600, instead of the Honda EZ3000CX Generator for R8500... it has the added benefit of having an inverter
 
It would be of interest to know the difference of a generator and generator with inverter. Is the hardware relating to the Tesla including the inverter or is the inverter part of the powerwall? The other thing is the installation cost. There are also restrictions like the size of generators or like applications and certificates of compliance. All this costs have to be considered.

The power wall has an internal charger and inverter built in .
An AC generator is an ICE driving an AC generator, while the inverter model is an ICE driving a DC generator which drives an inverter.

Comparing solar to small generator supply to a house hold is not a fair indication on solar cost, effectively if you have a 5 kW solar system will reduce your municipal account by a significant amount on a monthly basis. If you take the of cost your solar system, is saving you on an annual basis over 7 to 10 years you would of paid off your solar system. Another drawback with a generator, when you want to use it once in awhile the battery may be flat, your fuel has been used for the lawn mower and the fuel pumps are not working due to power outage. GO GREEN GO SOLAR

My hobby over the past 5 years has been buying, installing and testing different solar equipment at my own residence. I also purchased a 6.5 kW generator and believe me my message has nothing to do with sales, when I started using solar equipment my bill was around R7000 a month and after increases over the last couple of years I am running a bill of between R3000 and R4000 per month currently. Pool pump 3 AC units 4 Fridges Ice Machine 2 geysers (Also linked to solar water heating system)

Tesla powerwall is just a battery backup, you need another inverter with solar charger to connect pv in which case you can forgo the huge cost of the powerwall and go normal hybrid inverter with solar PV and LFP batteries
 
3 x 3.6 kw Lifo batteries = R60000 plus 10kw hybrid invertor = R33000. Sundries R20000. Total R113000. Tesla want's to steal what's left in our country. To expensive.
 
Guys there are people who can afford a mac pro. There are more people who can afford a power wall.

I would get both if I was shopping in that price range.

I find it odd when you say it like that, "shopping in that price range", almost like saying you are looking for a R1m car, all along I thought it was foremost about the specs and then price comes after?

It almost sound silly to be shopping in some price range, that's how you end up with a Tesla Powerwall while there are other more superior products.

You must have missed the ques for the latest iPhone. People do that. There similarly specced laptops , cellphones and lithium batteries that cost less I agree.

Yes for some people price comes after they happily pay the premium for a "premium" product and like you I'm very jealous.

Jealous? I can be very jealous when the need arises, but I just cannot summon the green eyed monster in me in such instances, all I feel is pity and disbelief when someone buys a mediocre product at a premium.
