Amazon Just Walk Out tested

I recently used Amazon's Just Walk Out at one of its small stores in the UK and was impressed with the cashierless and paypointless checkout system.

Initially launched at Amazon Go stores in the US in 2018, the intention of Just Walk Out was to help customers avoid having to wait in long queues while shopping.

This will not work in South Africa - too many thefts and dishonest people - and this is why we can't have nice things in this country my fellow South Africans.

Not mentioned in the article but another option at Tesco is scan as you shop. Sits between just walk out and self checkout and makes the whole process that much more convenient. Only old people use traditional manned tills. And not a security guard in sight.

Sidenote: Santa Maria’s pizzeria, not far from Euston station, is some of the best pizza you will ever eat.

You realise there’s been a massive increase in shoplifting in the uk?

Did anyone ever find out where all the solar panels/batteries went to?

Why do you think we have less loadshedding now, Half of the locations are now solar powered so don't need to steal electricity anymore.

The other issue is jobs. I believe Pick n Pay wanted to go the self-checkout route too. But it got quickly shut down, due to taking people's jobs away.

In the US they do not need testing. The poor can already walk into most stores, take what they want and walk out without paying. They may not be stopped, intimidated or arrested. It is a dismissible offence in the US if you stop them as a staff member. It is so bad in the US, they are now launching stores in San Francisco where you can walk in at month end and take what you need and walk out too. These stores are financed by the taxpayers at US$5m each to ensure this. So, at least in the US Amazon knows this is already working.
