For the past 2 month I've a weird rash/hives developing on my chest.
Went to a doctor and he said it severe acne :erm:

The rash had seemed to calm down, except it started acting up again yesterday.
For the past couples of weeks I've haven't had anything with a lot of wheat in it, except this past weekend.
I'm starting to believe that the rash is caused by a heavy dose of gluten but I can't be entirely sure.

How did you or someone you know figure out that you were allergic to something?
Was it case of just ruling it or did you go to a doctor for blood tests?

Blood test, but if you haven't experienced it before, then it is most likely acne.

Its all hit & miss.

I took an allergy test (blood I think) when I was a kid. Doc told me I was allergic to wheat/yeast. Parents tried to feed me a non-wheat diet for years.

Nope...not even slightly allergic to it. What a waste of time...

I've grown very wary of anyone telling me I'm allergic to anything...(thats not to say allergies are very real - bee/nut/shellfish allergies regularly kill people).

I've trialed & error it instead and concluded that I'm not seriously allergic to anything at all, but I do react negatively to specific items. None of which are important here except perhaps that diary intake an acne definitely correlate in my case...fast too...within a day or three. I'm told this depends on the type of acne though (apparently there are many types...never investigated)

I would have to agree with Havoc. Those blood tests are just a waste of money. Try eliminating suspect foods from your diet one at a time for at least 3 weeks (wheat and gluten rich products could take up to 5 weeks to see any noticeable improvements due to the size of the protein). Also, remember that wheat is not the only food that contains gluten.
