PALESTINE, Texas — Body camera footage capturing the split-second decision officers were forced to make when a suspect pulled what appeared to be a handgun has been released.

According to the Palestine Herald, Sgt. Gabriel Green and Officer Kaylynn Griffin were called to the scene May 31 after employees at a local store witnessed 47-year-old James D. Bushey attempting to steal a case of beer.

Bushey then entered a nearby restaurant and hid in a stall. While the officers were escorting him out of the building, he pulled out the replica pellet gun.

Green fired multiple shots at Bushey before Griffin, who had been armed with a TASER, pulled her weapon and also opened fire on the suspect.

Bushey died at the scene. Police later discovered the weapon was a replica made to resemble a Colt 1911 .45 caliber handgun, according to the report.

Both officers have been cleared in the incident and have returned to full duty.

Body cameras work both ways. Hopefully more cops will wear them.

Videos below. There's a person getting shot, so decide whether you want to watch that.

Idiot who drew the replica deserved this response if you ask me.

I like cases where the body cam is not showing gross negligence and brutality on the part of the cops.

Well, if you're gonna be a fscking idiot and pull out a fake gun between two officers with real guns, you deserve to be shot. Idiot:rolleyes:

It's probably exactly what he was looking for. Poor cops are probably a bit traumatised by it.

Which is why I said it's a two-way street. Body cams can absolve good cops from being lumped in with the douchebag ones.

well,yes cops shoot to fast
,but in this case,he deserved it,if its fake or not,he pulled a gun on a cop, what did he think will happen???

Ya, agree. If you pull a gun on anyone expect to get shot.

However I do thing shooting him three times when he was on the grown was perhaps excessive. Who knows where the fatal shot was though.

I can't believe how stupid this guy was.

Stealing smokes I can almost understand. Stealing beer? In my experience, when you get to that point, your life is mostly flushed and in the plumbing anyway. Suicide by cops.

AFAIK, emptying your clip into an armed suspect is SOP. One bullet won't necessarily kill or disable a suspect. More so when you are dealing with criminals pumped-up on drugs like PCP or wearing body armour.

True, would have done the same myself but it's still shooting a motionless body on the ground. There was even a pause

A pause? I saw three shots in rapid succession from the OTHER cop. Nine shots from the first cop, three from the second, he was still moving after the first nine so I don't blame her for firing off three more rounds.

Well done to the cops. Only an idiot pulls out any sort of gun on armed officers. Glad they were both cleared of this incident. Body cams seem to be the way forward here. :)
I also concur that maybe they were a little excessive with the shooting, however as Vaakseun says - its SOP. One bullet might not do the trick. Or even two.

These guys were shot multiple times, and still didn't go down. Incidently, it's also the reason the FBI stopped using service revolvers and started using pistols. It also lead to S&W developing the .40. Useless history lesson ftw.

Idiot, seems he was contemplating this the whole time, death by cop.
