thanks

I'm a bit confused. Do you want to make use of the fonts in Microsoft Word?

XP has a built-in fontviewer app .... just use explorer and navigate to the C:\Windows\Fonts folder and double click on any of the .TTF files.

you don't require any software to add fonts, all you need if the font file which can be download from a font website, Just search google for free font, then copy the actual font file to C:\WINDOWS\Fonts , and it will automatically be installed on your system.

Example of free fonts

If want to make your own fonts just download a font designer, then one I used sometime back was Font Creator, which was quite simple, I wrote the letters on a piece of paper, scanned it, then added each letter individually to the program and I was then able to use it on my pc. It's a bit time consuming so going with free fonts might be a better option.
