Some shoes I bought a while back from Due South are falling apart, I phoned a branch to ask about the warranty and the lady I spoke to said they are closing down shortly, so I said ok fine I'll take them to another branch, she replied that they are all clossing down.
I checked the Due south website now and there is no stock loaded, the other TFG group websites are still active.

Does anyone know what is going on at Due South, if the TFG is shutting the stores/brand down?

The menlyn one looks totally stripped down they selling absolutely everything including old stock for low prices def looks like they shutting down

Just found this on Facebook. Seems the business is indeed closing down.

I suspect more stores in the TFG group will be closing shop in SA in the next year or so.

Yeah, I have known for about 6m now they shutting down, all stock not sold is moving to other stores in the franchise.

I think their reacting to the Edcon situation, probably everything which is sold under different brands and stores will be sold in single store. This will drastically reduce their wage and rental expenditure. Will hurt the bottomline of the Malls badly too.

Hence the reason for my comment. Yes, I too think this is what is happening. All retail are currently hurting and I think a lot of scaling down in order to save costs are currently happening.

Ive been wondering when they would be. They used to be a very good competitor to Cape Union Mart. Then they all of a sudden stopped selling adventure gear and just sold clothes which were pretty much available in the other TFG stores so there really was no need for Due South stores to exist. Seemed a bit of a weird company strategy to take.

Dammit man, that's basically the only store I can find decent quality t-shirts that actually fit!

Exactly this. They used to carry gear that was better quality than K-Way. I still have a Due South branded 65l backpack that's over ten years old and in top shape. But the last few times I walked in, it was just clothes and single overpriced North Face duffel bag.

I noticed yesterday that Markham in La Lucia Mall was closing down. I wonder if that chain group is also going to start reducing its store footprint soon?

I thought Tfg was bucking the trend and a far healthier business than Edcon and others.

That being said the outdoors retail space is busy af, in the relatively small regional mall nearby there is a CUM, Due South, Trappers, Columbia and across the way an Outdoor Warehouse and Sports Center(with a large outdoor gear section), I have no clue how they all break even.
