Thai coup

Basically the opposition party, with the help of the Army have taken over (according to Sky News) Thailand because they are fed-up with government incompetence and corruption [I wish it would happen here] -- the recent elections in April were declared fraudulent so a new election would have taken place in November.

I don't think our army can do much in its current state.

It would be a very bad day if the SA army is ever unleashed on the SA people. All they are capable of is plunder, rape and propoganda. Just look at congo and the recent propaganda about about right wing whites stealing the army weapons.

I am so glad that this is the case ... if it was up to me I would get rid of the whole institution and simply have no standing army at all like Costa Rica.

Why cant we park tanks outside Telkom's offices....or the DoC offices. sigh...anyways the coup thing is quite a shocker. hope there's no civil unrest there and cause violence.

Regarding the Thai coup - most of the citizens are ok with it. The ousted PM was not liked, was corrupt, etc. The General mentioned above is well know to be apolitical, and the group have placed themselves under the King of Thailand.

Bangkok Post News site

I have a buddy working in Bangkok. He has to go sign a register every hour. The situation is tense, but peaceful. The main concern is that the ousted government try to react with their own military might. It could get violent at that point.
