I bet half of the people who read this will be expecting a sarcastic comment .. well it's not.

I just wanna say thank you to Telkom for installing my new ADSL line in my new place in under a week.
Yes .. that is correct .. it has taken Telkom 3 working days from the time the order was placed telephonically to the successful installation.

Thank you again telkom.

now can we discuss the cap issue :)

I'm in the other half that were also happy with the speed at which I got my connection.

I ordered it and the very next day picked up my modem from them and I was connected.:D

Same here, back in 2005 I waited 2 weeks, which is really not that long, we took longer to sign up and weigh all the options, than Telkom did to connect us.

I would still prefer better uptime and service however lately it's been good. I haven't had a complaint in a couple of months ;)

well, im still waiting. everytime i phone they tell me a different story. the my exchange supports it. then it doesnt. then there isnt leads (whatever that is), then everything is fine.

same with wimax. yes there is recption in your area. next day... no there isnt. phone again, your area isnt on our system.

oh well

I'm with you guys on this one.

Went to a Telkom Direct shop at 13H00 today - had to transfer the service from my landlady's name. Not only did they transfer the service, they also advised me that there's an existing ADSL line so all I had to do was to migrate from the current service to whatever I wanted.

That said, they set me up with a Closer Plan 2 @ R145 per month ad a DoBroadband Level 1 package @ R199 per month, and I got a modem on the 24-month contract that I took with them. All this, during my lunch time.

I'm definitely one happy customer :)

Yeah I took mine on a month 2 month as I learn't my lesson when burnt my fingers with a contract with that evil iburst company.

Similar stories, in fact, 3 months ago they said they need to build a new exchange in my area. Yesterday they said that they had "just checked" and discovered that there is not enough ports (on an exchange that doesn't exist yet). This morning they said the exchange was complete, and just now they told me that the project completion date is in December, now I ask you...

Can you explicitly request Wimax from them now, or is it still the situation of they might offer it to you?

i specifically asked for it but on 10217 (for residential customers as well). they check on their system if there's coverage and apparently then they send you an application form and quote. havent gotten that far yet.

but they are going to ask you why you want wimax and not adsl. so have your "creative" stories ready. unless there really isnt adsl in your area.

:)

but, i visited the telkom stand at rage and was told wimax is only a temp solution until the roll-out fibre.

but i've also heard from other sources that wimax will be used for telkom's media wing (IPTV).

so who knows... the guy at rage didnt look too clued up.

Does the fibre excuse still hold?

EDIT: Never mind ... looking at your previous post it would seem I will be wwwaaayyyy ahead :D
