Clearly if you use linksfield tower you are totally to blame for my bad speed, now get off and do some work! [:p]

Good day,

Please be advised that the MyWireless product is contended,
therefore you are sharing the 128kb link with no more than
30 users. Your speed is determined on how many of those
users above mentioned are online with you. The lowest
minimum throughput is 4,26kbps and maximum being the full
128kbps.

And so you know the definitive answer to slow speeds:

Good Day

Not necessarily. When you log on you join a "channel" which
can hold up to 29 other users. If there are users already
on the channel, your bandwidth will already be contended,
therefore decreased, but as the users log off the channel,
your bandwidth will increase.

So 128k -> R8000 using Telkom Diginet line.
Thus 30 users -> R266,00 per user vs the present R640 and the
massive LATENCY from Sentech. The www.locustworld.com meshboxes
are used to distribute this Telkom diginet signal.

www.sawireless.co.za are commercial providers implementing this.
Why is the community thing just not getting of the ground?

ADSL and Sentech is a scam. Diginet lines are the only way to go.

From reading between the lines, and having experienced Sentech's 'offering', I think what the young Orc from the helldesk meant to say is...

"Not definitely. When you log on you join a "channel" which holds 29 other users. Because there are already 29 users on the channel, your bandwidth is contended, therefore decreased. As users log off the channel, we will fill it again, thus it is continually full (do not want to waste any channels now, do we?)."

Now, what he did not say, and this is the important part:
"If you are unlucky and end up in the same channel as noone when he is downloading pr0n, your bandwidth is really going to suck."
