Yes that's what budgeting is all about. However you go about it, it's a method of analysing your spending to trim areas of wastage and increase saving. Not sure why you think I disagree with you there.

I don't think we really disagree. But I like the idea of gradually adjusting your spending pattern to get to the goals of the 'saving challenge'. It's all to easy to do a budget and leave it at that month after month. Having a larger saving goal each month forces you to revise your budget constantly.

I do think that starting on R100, is wasting your time though. You should start at your current savings level and then make the challenge to save more and more each month.

Yeah I agree with that. And it doesn't make sense to try to increase the saving amount incrementally because that's just not how the process of saving happens. You figure out areas where you're wasting money and cut them out, and sometimes that can result in a R1k saving and others in R10. But I guess if you're like pitbull and you just never think about your money, this is a pretty effective way of saving it without needing to dig too deeply into your finances.
