Alfa boss gives details of Giulia replacement, due as firm’s second EV in the coming years
The Alfa Romeo Giulia will return as an EV with up to 1000bhp and a range of 435 miles, the Italian firm’s CEO Jean-Philippe Imparato has confirmed.
Set to evolve from its conventional saloon shape to cover multiple segments, it is expected to arrive around the middle of the decade, no longer offering combustion power as the firm pushes to offer a solely EV range by 2027.
Power will start at near-345bhp in entry-level form, with the more powerful Veloce offering around 790bhp. A hardcore Quadrifolio variant is also confirmed, which will offer “around 1000hp” (986bhp) – almost double the 503bhp offered by today’s twin-turbo V6 car.
This most powerful variant will likely be a four-wheel-drive proposition, rather than rear-driven as is the current car, and could get a set-up similar to Stellantis sibling Maserati’s upcoming Granturismo Folgore, which uses three motors – one on the front axle and two at the rear – with torque-vectoring functionality.

While forced to launch humdrum crossovers to keep it on course financially, Alfa Romeo is working on ambitious plans for a future of exciting high-end EVs, including a saloon up to a staggering 1,000bhp. We've been getting the details from Alfa's boss Jean-Philippe Imparato.
Alfa remains a relatively tiny player, but last year it grew steadily. Sales were up by 22 per cent across Europe even as the overall car market shrank. Profits rose too, as costs fell, he says. And this year the Tonale should add more.
Next year there's Alfa's first full-EV. But don't get too excited: it's another crossover, smaller than the Tonale. It'll be based, Imparato confirms, on the Stellantis CMP platform, available as petrol and electric. In other words, an Alfa'd version the Jeep Avenger or Vauxhall Mokka.

In an interview with Autocar, Alfa Romeo‘s CEO, Jean-Philippe Imparato, sought to reassure people about the next Giulia. The new car will evolve into an EV with a 345 hp base model and a more powerful Veloce variant making upwards of 790 horses. For us, the real treat will be a 1000 hp Quadrifolio offering, making almost double the current car’s number.
With all this power, it will more than likely get an all-wheel-drive setup with three electric motors similar to that found in the new Maserati GranTurismo Folgore.

Valtteri Bottas - who, as you may recall, drives in F1 for Alfa Romeo - has taken delivery of his brand new Giulia GTAm. Which, as you may recall, is made by Alfa Romeo.
Despite the obvious link, Alfa insists that Bottas has made the purchase of his own free will, stating that his ‘desire’ to own the hardcore versions of the already-quite-hardcore saloon ‘represents a manifestation of personal union with the brand’. Hmm.
Putting our scepticism on ice for a sec, this is actually a great example of cool-car-meets-cool driver. Bottas has become something of a cult hero since departing Mercedes (seriously, check out his new race helmet from testing in Bahrain), while the appeal of a 532bhp bi-turbo V6 should need no explaining.
The Giulia GTA was meant to have sold out about 18 months ago, although Alfa said at the time it would open a reserve list of interested customers who missed the limited, 500-unit run in case any buyers pulled out at the last moment.

New variants of the Alfa Romeo Giulia Quadrifoglio and Alfa Romeo Stelvio Quadrifoglio mark a century of the sporting badge, bringing a slight uplift in power and unique features.
Capped at 100 units worldwide per car, the limited editions, badged Quadrifoglio 100 Anniversario, have their twin-turbocharged 2.9-litre V6 engines uprated from 503bhp to 513bhp and gain a mechanical limited-slip differential.
The first ever LSD fitted to a QV model has been specifically tuned to somewhat mirror the driving behaviour of the also-limited-edition 533bhp Alfa Romeo Giulia GTA, as well as increase stability and agility and therefore offer better cornering speeds.
They “are the result of one-hundred years of research into technical excellence”, Alfa Romeo said.

Alfa Romeo has revealed new, more powerful anniversary editions of its rather delectable Giulia and Stelvio Quadrifoglio models, each packing a boosted version of that even more delectable 2.9-litre turbo V6.
As standard, and when in full working order, that V6 produces 503bhp. What you’d impolitely classify as ‘really bl**dy fast’. These new ‘Quadrifoglio 100 Anniversario’ cars, which to nobody's surprise celebrate 100 years since the original Quadrifoglio badge made an appearance, get an additional… ten horsepowers.
You could get that much from skipping breakfast, or indeed sticking a badge on the mudguards – which of course both cars have – but then again, a newly liberated 513bhp, just 20bhp down from the madcap Giulia GTA - should still feel… really quick, and wrapped up in a new green hue should remain both a delightfully well-rounded super-saloon and sports SUV.
That additional ten horsepower is matched to another goody for both cars – a mechanical limited slip diff, taking its tune from that wild Giulia GTA. Alfa is claiming better traction and ‘behaviour’, better torque transfer and ‘speed in bends’. Certainly worked a treat on the GTA and GTAm, as you can read about here. And as you’ll see here, there are new full LED headlights specifically added to the 100th Anniversario cars, along with gold brake calipers and those aforementioned Quadrifoglio emblem on the mudguards.

On April 15, 2023, 100 years will have passed since an indelible symbol of Alfa Romeo, the Quadrifoglio, made its debut on the racing version of the RL during the XIV edition of the Targa Florio.
On this special anniversary, Alfa Romeo has introduced the new Giulia and Stelvio Quadrifoglio with the exclusive commemorative "Quadrifoglio 100th Anniversario" edition. Limited to just 100 units both for the Giulia and Stelvio, the Anniversary Edition is the result of one hundred years of research into technical excellence which has been applied to racing and production vehicles. Its iconic nature, technical purity and technology have been combined to place it at the top of its respective segments, with best-in-class handling and power-to-weight ratio, creating a direct and immersive one-of-a-kind Alfa Romeo driving experience. Lots of new features: celebratory badges, exclusive characterization, and lots of technology thanks to the new adaptive full-LED matrix headlamps and the new fully digital instrument cluster embellished with the historic 'telescope' design.

Only 100 of each will be built worldwide, and both will get 513 hp.
The Quadrifoglio name is turning 100 years old, so Alfa Romeo has decided to celebrate with 100th-anniversary editions of the Giulia and Stelvio. But unless you already have a great relationship with your Alfa Romeo dealer, odds are, you won’t be able to get your hands on one. That’s because Alfa plans to only build 100 examples of each for the entire world.
The Italian automaker hasn’t said how many Quadrifoglio 100th Anniversario editions will be sent to the U.S., but even if we got all 100, that’s still a seriously limited run. Alfa also hasn’t released pricing, but considering how rare they will be, we wouldn’t be surprised to hear that dealers are adding substantial markups over MSRP once they’re finally released.
That said, it doesn’t seem like you’ll be missing out on much if you just buy a regular Quadrifoglio. The press release says they get a small horsepower boost to 520 hp, but we’re betting that’s a European horsepower rating. So in American, that’s more like 513 hp. More is always better, of course, but 8 hp isn’t exactly something you’re going to feel. You do get the mechanical differential tuning from the Giulia GTA, though, which Alfa says helps improve handling.
You also get the updated styling from the refresh that includes new headlights, which is nice, as well as gold brake calipers. There’s some exposed carbon fiber on the grille and side-view mirrors, too. And inside, the number 100 is stitched in gold on the passenger side of the dash to make sure people know you got the special Quadrifoglio.
