We have SA pricing for the new Alfa Romeo Giulia!
The Alfa Romeo Giulia has officially arrived in South Africa, and local pricing has been released.
The four-model line-up starts from R555 000 and runs through to R1,4-million.
The Giulia is the Italian brand’s comeback to the compact executive sedan segment, with the high-performance Quadrifoglio Verde variant serving as the flagship (look out for a full road test of the QV in the April issue of CAR magazine).
Interestingly, Alfa Romeo SA brought in 46 units of the Launch and Race Edition models (both based on the range-topping QV), which it says were snapped up “within three days of the order book opening at local dealerships”. The two models were priced at R1 400 000 and R1 600 000, respectively.
Locally, three trim levels will be available (excluding the QV). The Base model features items such as 16-inch alloy wheels, dual-zone climate control and cruise control.
The Super adds 17-inch alloys, adaptive cruise contol, steering wheel mounted paddles, twin exhausts and privacy glass. And the Super with Stile Pack raises the bar further with 18-inch alloys, a Uconnect infotainment system, a sports pack (items such as a sports steering wheel and xenon headlamps) a convenience pack.
All models bar the QV feature a 2,0-litre, four-cylinder, turbocharged petrol engine worth 147 kW and 330 N.m. The QV, of course, employs a 2,9-litre V6 bi-turbo engine delivering 375 kW and 600 N.m. All Giulia models come with an eight-speed automatic transmission as standard.
The Giulia will be available in a choice of thirteen exterior colours (three solid and eight metallic). The QV will additionally be offered with a choice two optional tri-coat hues.

This area is said to have some of the world’s finest driving roads, so it’s an appropriate, if ambitious, setting for the launch of the new Alfa Romeo Giulia, the car with which Fiat Chrysler Automobiles is hoping to rewrite the dynamic handling book for D segment sedans.
On paper it ticks all the right boxes, with high-revving engines claiming big performance numbers, perfect weight distribution, ultra-direct 11.8:1 steering, sophisticated running gear, an impressive power-to-weight ratio and, most important of all, rear-wheel drive.
The Giulia comes to South Africa this week in a five-strong line-up, the first four with an all-new two-litre turbopetrol four, rated for 147kW at 5000 revs and 330Nm at 1750rpm, thanks to MultiAir electro-hydraulic valves and a two-in-one turbo set-up. The flagship QV, however, wields a Ferrari-inspired 2.9-litre all-aluminium twin-turbo petrol V6, for which Alfa claims some very impressive numbers, such as 375kW and 600Nm, 0-100kmh in 3.9 seconds and 307km/h flat out.
All Giulias come with an eight-speed automatic transmission as standard and an integrated braking system that combines electronic stability control with a traditional servo for impressive initial bite and reduced pedal vibration, while the QV boasts a double-clutch differential that controls torque delivery individually to each rear wheel, so it doesn’t need invasive selective braking to control wheelspin.
Four trim levels
The flight deck is built around the driver, with all the main controls - including the start button - built into the steering wheel, with just two simple knobs for controlling drive modes and the infotainment system.
The 22cm 3D navigation system - developed in collaboration with Magneti Marelli - is controlled by a rotary pad, and has advanced voice recognition for complete connectivity with smartphones and tablets using Apple iOS and Android operating systems. Its navigation function, with high-resolution 3D maps, can even be used without the GPS signal via dead reckoning technology, allows TomTom map updates via USB and displays analyses of your driving style and drive mode.
An optional 14 speaker, 12 channel 900W Harman Kardon sound theatre system - a first for Alfa Romeo - uses Logic 7 technology to produce a surround sound effect.
The light stuff
The base Giulia comes with cloth or (optional) leather upholstery, dual-zone climate control, cruise control, idle stop and 16 alloy rims.
The Giulia Super adds mixed fabric and leather trim in black, black and tan or red, adaptive cruise control with autonomous braking, paddle shift, dual tailpipes, tinted windows, and 17 inch rims.
The top two-litre Giulia is the Super with Stile Pack, which includes 18 inch rims, full leather trim in black, red or tan, a sports steering wheel, aluminium inserts on the dashboard, central console and door panels, as well as Uconnect 8.4 CD/DVD/MP3/Nav, xenon headlights, electrically adjustable heated front seats, and genuine oak or walnut inserts on the dashboard, central tunnel and door panels.
The QV (Quadrafolio Verde) boasts 19 inch alloys, comes with your choice of three leather and alcantara combinations - well as optional Sparco carbon-fibre seat shells - and an active front splitter to manage downforce for higher performance and better grip at high speed.

Alfa Romeo has introduced its much-anticipated Giulia business class sedan in South Africa. Spearheaded by the Quadrifoglio model, of which limited numbers were pre-sold before the range’s arrival, the conventional Guilia models are powered by 147 kW 2.0-litre turbopetrol engines and come with 6-year/100 000 km maintenance plans.
Not only are alfistas eager to sample the newcomer because it is the Milanese marque’s first rear-wheel drive sedan since it returned to South Africa about 20 decades ago, the Giulia is also claimed to offer outstanding weight distribution, an innovative suspension (double wishbone setup with semi-virtual steering axis at the front and a 4.5-link configuration at the rear) and the most direct steering system in its segment.
To obtain an optimal weight-to-power ratio, the newcomer features ultralight materials such as carbon fibre – for the driveshaft – or aluminium – for the engine and suspension (including front domes and front and rear frames).
Shorn of the Quadrifoglio's aerodynamic addenda, the Gulia looks more elegant and composed.

Equipped with a host of additional technology, such as an active aero splitter, Alfa DNA Pro, torque vectoring and chassis domain control (active suspension), the flagship features a carbon fibre bonnet, roof, front splitter, rear body inserts; aluminium for doors and wheel arches. Furthermore, the braking system utilises aluminium elements and carbon ceramic discs (optional) and the seats have a carbon fibre structural frame (optional).
Even though the first consignment of Quadrifoglios were pre-sold, the top-of-the-range derivative remains available "in limited numbers".
Whereas a more moderately equipped Quadrifoglio derivative remains available in limited numbers, the 3 versions of the 2.0-litre derivative are the focus of the Giulia’s introduction. Equipped with an 8-speed automatic transmission, the all-aluminium 2.0-litre turbopetrol features high-compression direct injection technology and a MultiAir electro-hydraulic valve activation system. The peak performance outputs are 147 kW and 330 Nm.

'I can report that it's a wonderful, powerful & slick handling sports sedan,' says Wheels24's Sean Parker after a spending time behind the wheel of Alfa Romeo's new Giulia.
An alternative to the BMW 3 Series and Mercedes-Benz C-Class, Alfa Romeo's Giulia and Giulia QV has arrived in South Africa following their highly publicised international debut.
Four trim levels are available all fitted with 2.0-litre Turbo petrol with the exception of the performance-orientated Quadrafolio Verde. The Giulia Base features a high level of standard equipment such as 16” alloy wheels, dual-zone climate control, cruise control as well as stop/start technology.
Next in the range, the Super, adds 17” alloy wheels, adaptive cruise control (with STOP function), paddle shifts, twin exhausts, privacy glass and decorative aluminium door sills.
The top-of-the-range Stile Pack, features all equipment available for its sibling with the addition of 18” alloy wheels, Uconnect 8.4 CD/DVD/MP3/Nav, Sports Pack and Convenience Pack for added uniqueness in the range.
A Sport Pack includes a sports steering wheel, aluminium inserts on the dashboard, central tunnel and door panels, as well as Xenon headlights.
The Luxury Pack features leather dashboard and door panels, heated front seats electrically adjustable with eight settings, genuine oak or walnut wood inserts on the dashboard, central tunnel and door panels, chrome-plated window frames and power side-mirrors.
Two new engine versions
Alfa débuts its new four-cylinder 2.0-litre petrol engine in its next=generation Giulia, capable of 147kW/330Nm. The 2.9 litre V6 Bi-Turbo engine powers the top-of-the-range QV version, delivering 375kW/600Nm; top speed is rated at 307km/h, and it rockets to 100km/h in 3.9 seconds.

Interior finishes are available in cloth or leather on the Base model, cloth and leather combinations in single or two-tone (Black, Red and Black or Tobacco) on the Super model and full leather (Black, Red or Tabacco) on the Stile option. In terms of safety, the Alfa Romeo Giulia recently earned a prestigious Euro NCAP 5-star rating, scoring 98% in adult occupant protection.
This outstanding result was achieved by implementing two key elements: firstly, the adoption of a wide range of innovative safety systems, and secondly, the efficiency of a bodyshell that is light and rigid in equal measure, and makes extensive use of ultra-lightweight materials such as carbon-fibre, aluminium and aluminium composite.
Wheels24's Sean Parker said: "After a few laps in the Giulia QV around the 'plaaspad' track in Franschhoek. I can report that it's a wonderful, powerful and slick handling sports sedan. Did I mention it has 375kW? The 2.9-litre engine is responsive, while gear shifts are snappy via the paddles fixed to the steering column. The electric-hydraulic steering is intuitive and possibly even more direct than a Donald Trump tweet.
"Unfortunately we'll hardly see these cars as there are only 40 of them destined for SA and all have been sold. The Giulia in all derivatives offers a stylish alternative to the normal German sedans."

Next in the range, the Super, adds 17” alloy wheels, adaptive cruise control (with STOP function), paddle shifts, twin exhausts, privacy glass and decorative aluminium door sills.
The top-of-the-range Stile Pack, features all equipment available for its sibling with the addition of 18” alloy wheels, Uconnect 8.4 CD/DVD/MP3/Nav, Sports Pack and Convenience Pack for added uniqueness in the range.
A Sport Pack includes a sports steering wheel, aluminium inserts on the dashboard, central tunnel and door panels, as well as Xenon headlights.
The Luxury Pack features leather dashboard and door panels, heated front seats electrically adjustable with eight settings, genuine oak or walnut wood inserts on the dashboard, central tunnel and door panels, chrome-plated window frames and power side-mirrors.
Two new engine versions
Alfa débuts its new four-cylinder 2.0-litre petrol engine in its next=generation Giulia, capable of 147kW/330Nm. The 2.9 litre V6 Bi-Turbo engine powers the top-of-the-range QV version, delivering 375kW/600Nm; top speed is rated at 307km/h, and it rockets to 100km/h in 3.9 seconds.
All Giulia versions are come with an 8-speed automatic transmission as standard.
Tabacco is a colour?
Interior finishes are available in cloth or leather on the Base model, cloth and leather combinations in single or two-tone (Black, Red and Black or Tobacco) on the Super model and full leather (Black, Red or Tabacco) on the Stile option. The QV version features three leather and alcantara combinations as well as the optional Sparco carbon-fibred seat shells.
Giulia will be available in a choice of thirteen exterior colours; three solid and eight metallic. The QV will additionally be offered with a choice two optional Tri-Coat paint colours.
All Giulia models are fitted with alloy wheels from 16” to 18” for the 2.0-litre versions and 19” on the QV model.
In terms of safety, the Alfa Romeo Giulia recently earned a prestigious Euro NCAP 5-star rating, scoring 98% in adult occupant protection.
This outstanding result was achieved by implementing two key elements: firstly, the adoption of a wide range of innovative safety systems, and secondly, the efficiency of a bodyshell that is light and rigid in equal measure, and makes extensive use of ultra-lightweight materials such as carbon-fibre, aluminium and aluminium composite.
Wheels24's Sean Parker said: "After a few laps in the Giulia QV around the 'plaaspad' track in Franschhoek. I can report that it's a wonderful, powerful and slick handling sports sedan. Did I mention it has 375kW? The 2.9-litre engine is responsive, while gear shifts are snappy via the paddles fixed to the steering column. The electric-hydraulic steering is intuitive and possibly even more direct than a Donald Trump tweet.
"Unfortunately we'll hardly see these cars as there are only 40 of them destined for SA and all have been sold. The Giulia in all derivatives offers a stylish alternative to the normal German sedans."
