Look, the Alpine A290 is in Glen Powell’s new film ‘The Running Man’
Electric hot hatch makes its silver screen debut
Alpine has revealed its courageous, spunky little A290 electric hot hatch has taken a starring role in a new action film called The Running Man. Well, that’ll hit the spot.
It’s another adaptation of Stephen King’s novel, the first of course being Arnold Schwarzenegger’s quote-laden 1987 classic. This new one’s directed by Edgar Wright – Hot Fuzz, Shaun of the Dead, Baby Driver – and stars Glen Powell.
And it’s Powell’s co-star Emilia Jones who gets to have a go in the A290 hot hatch. Apparently, she’s “initially blissfully aware of her privilege”, but “her attitude changes as she encounters the film’s lead character Ben Richards, played by Powell, while at the wheel of her Alpine A290”.
We’re told three Alpine A290s were used in the film, along with “17 extra body parts” that included spare windows, doors, front wings and even some lights. “Given the action-packed nature of the film,” we’re informed, “all of these spares were used during filming.”

The Alpine A290 hot hatch is helping to convert long-time petrolheads to electric power, according to the brand’s UK boss.
The Renault 5-based EV is the first new car under Alpine’s reinvention from a single-model sports car brand into a performance-honed electrified brand. Speaking to the Autocar Meets podcast, Alpine UK chief Nicola Burnside said the reception from UK buyers since the A290 has been launched has exceeded expectations.
“The UK loves a hot hatch," said Burnside, adding that the A290 has “been adopted by the UK public really quickly and you can see that in the numbers.”
Alpine has sold 1155 cars in the UK so far in 2025, a year-on-year rise of 267%. Burnside said the growth is coming from both existing A110 buyers and newcomers.
“We’ve kept our original customer base, which is a mix of motorsport enthusiasts and petrolheads, and they’re transitioning with us into EVs,” said Burnside. “But we’ve also got a lot of younger customers coming in that are able to access the brand. There are a lot of people from city centres that are focused on an EV product to access those cities. So it’s really broad, which is surprising and really positive.”
The larger A390, a five-seater that Burnside said “offers the speed and agility of the A110”, will be launched in the UK soon and “will enable us to talk to a whole new client base”. That will be followed by a next-generation electric A110.

Alpine teases an electric A110
The famous French car brand Alpine is turning 70 years old, and it is celebrating with a massive shift in direction. Alpine built its name on light, nimble gasoline cars, but now, the company is preparing to say goodbye to the internal combustion engine. During a special anniversary event, Alpine showed off the final version of its current sports car while promising that the next chapter will belong entirely to electric cars.
The star of the current lineup is the Alpine A110 R Ultime. CEO Philippe Krief calls this model a "grand finale" for the second generation of the A110. It is a track-focused beast with a price tag of about €265,000. Only 110 people will be able to buy one. This car uses a 1.8-liter engine that delivers 345 horsepower and 420 Nm of torque. It can go from 0 to 100 km/h in just 3.8 seconds. While this car represents the peak of gasoline technology for the brand, it also marks the end of an era.
As the gasoline era fades, EVs are moving to the front of the line. Alpine confirmed that production of the current gasoline A110 will end in mid-2026. After that, the third-generation A110 will arrive as a fully electric sports car. This new model will use the Alpine Performance Platform (APP), built just for high-performance electric cars. The company plans to share "really exciting news" about this electric successor in the first half of 2026.
Alpine has recently introduced the A390, an electric "sporty fastback" designed for families who still want to drive fast. The A390 GT version has nearly 400 horsepower and an 89 kWh battery that offers a range of up to 555 km. It is a large vehicle, measuring 4.61 m long, yet it still promises the agility Alpine is known for. Even professional racers are taking notice, with Formula One driver Pierre Gasly already having ordered his own A390.
