Well I hope ZWO releases a firmware update soon. If you turn it on and it wants to do a firmware update I'd recommend you decline it until they sort out this issue. They are apparently aware of it. The firmware in December worked perfectly, the one I installed this week has a serious issue and discards most of the frames.

Noted. I really hope mine did not ship with this firmware.

I did read now that there is a beta available on request that resolves the issue.
 
My Seestar S30 Pro was delivered on Friday. Unfortunately it shipped with the buggy firmware and we have not had a single night since then with clear skies here in Cape Town.

In the meantime I am getting myself familiar with the app interface and the calibration process. Awesome little telescope.

The level calibration is easy if you have this device, using the tripod legs would be a pain I'd imagine. You get this all over on Takealot and Amazon and other places. I get mine to 0.1 degrees in a few minutes.

Sjoe but the compass calibration was a pain. I must have turned the tripod 360 degrees 50 times over 10 minutes before it finally accepted it.

Chinese new year is over early next week so hopefully we get fixed firmware soon. Guess they have a different culture there, new years nothing happens. Over here I would be on standby in case of issues. There they all bugger off to the country side or wherever.
 
I have default viewfinder - red arrow - I find it very odd to use this way.

What is the correct term for viewfinder shown below with green arrow ?

90 degree adapter/mount/viewfinder ? I recall someone saying anything that is not a default accessory with telescope will reduce quality of image a lot. Make it make sense please.

Been a while. Busy, dieting (no wine to keep me up), wind, clouds and the damn moon. But tonight is good for 3-4 hours. Doing the Southern Pinwheel Galaxy (M83). Just started my session... (damn you Musk!)

If that is a similar size to the Milky Way Galaxy then it's about 100,000 light years across.
 
Bit of wind and moon but grabbing another 3 hours tonight to add to last session. And tomorrow looks possible too. 10 hours and I'm good.
 
If you were planning on getting a Seestar S30 Pro, better do it now.

I’ll post process it with PixInsight when I have 10 hours, it’ll be much better then. But weather and moon hasn’t been cooperating.
 
I'm looking for a backyard observatory, any ideas what I can use? This is so close but just a bit too small.
