The African National Congress has spent no less than R200-million on its 2009 election campaign, the party said on Friday.

ANC national executive council member, Nomvula Mokonyane, said most of the money used in the campaign had been raised by the party, through selling paraphernalia for example, she said.

Me thinks they are a touch concerned!

Are you upset about the money or that they spent so much because as far as i can tell they raised the money so they should spend it anyway they please :)

Well yes thereis alot at stack and having zuma in your party, you will need tons of advertising money and free give-aways :p.

Raised from whom? That money will be paid back, with interest, in other ways using our tax. It's the same with all politicians. Thats what p's me off.

What sort of paraphernalia were they selling? Imagine how much more they could've made if they sold Zuma bobble-heads or a pull-string Malema doll.

Massive logistics were involved in staging the Siyanqoba Rally on Sunday, the Gauteng African National Congress said.

About 20 000 volunteers, over 3 000 buses and a satellite hook-up to stadiums across eight provinces were just some of the numbers involved in staging the day's events, said spokesperson Nkenke Kekane.

Now if only the ANC could run this country like they did this election rally today. But this is the only month out of every five years that they work for their keep.

This may answer some of it...

Is the ANC selling out our sovereignty?

ANC's dodgy funders
The ANC is keeping mum on its funding sources for the election campaign, but party insiders involved in fundraising say its election effort is heavily subsidised by the ruling parties in Libya, Angola, China and India

I don't see any irregularities there.

Any funding from corporates or other countries comes with "strings" attached. The sooner they pass legislation requiring parties to disclose their "sources" for funds, the better. Although this is extremely unlikely as all of the parties seem intent on protecting their own interests and not those of the public.

Agreed, these details should be transparent across all parties.

Who wouldn't?
They probably see it as an investment
bust your rear off for 1 month every 5 yrs
and then ride the gravy for the next 5 yrs.

wonder if they used a BEE co. for all the hi-tech.

Good question.
They seem to disregard the BEE policies when it comes to the crunch, just like the use of the high powered lawyers that do a good job of keeping them out of court and jail.
