The new Audi RS5 Coupé is the first Audi Sport model in the new RS design idiom. The car's all-new 2.9 TFSI biturbo engine produces 331 kW (450 hp) and delivers 600 Nm (442.5 lb-ft) of torque. Standard quattro drive distributes the power to all four wheels.

"The new Audi RS5 Coupé is the gran turismo among the RS models from Audi Sport. The high-performance Coupé combines elegant aesthetics with high everyday usability. The car's V6 biturbo has been developed from the ground up and provides significantly more performance coupled with higher efficiency," said Stephan Winkelmann, CEO of Audi Sport GmbH, in describing the new model.

The designers drew inspiration for the RS5 Coupé from the distinctive racing details of the Audi 90 quattro IMSA GTO. Massive air inlets with the honeycomb structure typical of RS models characterize the front end of the new Audi RS5 Coupé. The Singleframe radiator grille is much wider and flatter than in the base model. Next to the headlights are additional lateral air intakes and outlets; tinted bezels differentiate the optional Matrix LED headlights. quattro blisters on the flanks emphasize the pronounced bulges over the wheel arches, which have been widened by 15 millimeters (0.6 in).

Sporty accents are provided by the RS-specific diffuser insert, the oval tailpipes of the RS exhaust system and surface-mounted spoiler lip. The RS5 Coupé rolls standard on 19-inch wheels, with 20-inch wheels available as an option. The appearance packages - gloss black, carbon and matt aluminum - provide even more customization options. With a length of 4,723 millimeters (185.9 in), the new Audi RS5 Coupé is 74 millimeters (2.9 in) longer than the previous model.

The 2.9 TFSI V6 biturbo engine, which Audi developed from the ground up, offers sharp increases in power and efficiency as well as an incomparably full-bodied RS sound. It produces 331 kW (450 hp). Its peak torque of 600 Nm (442.5 lb-ft) - up 170 Nm (125.4 lb-ft) from the previous model - is available across a wide band from 1,900 to 5,000 rpm. The top model in the A5 family sprints from 0 to 100 km/h (62.1 mph) in 3.9 seconds and with the optional dynamic package reaches a top speed of 280 km/h (174.0 mph).

The 2.9 TFSI unit's two turbochargers are positioned centrally between the cylinder banks. The ingested air flows to the respective turbocharger and into the combustion chambers through a dual-branch system for spontaneous response. The B-cycle combustion process with central direct injection represents a new level of efficiency among the RS models. The shortened compression stroke used here enables an engine process with a significantly higher geometric compression ratio. Combined with a power stroke that, while normal, is longer relative to the compression stroke, this allows for more efficient combustion and increased engine efficiency. In the NEDC, the V6 biturbo consumes just 8.7 liters of fuel per 100 kilometers (27.0 US mpg), corresponding to 197 grams CO2 per kilometer (317.0 g/mi). This is an efficiency gain of 17 percent over the previous model. Another factor in the greater efficiency of the newRS5 Coupé is its significantly lower weight. It tips the scales at 1,655 kilograms (3,648.7 lb), 60 kilograms (132.3 lb) less than before. A roof of carbon with a visible fiber structure is available as an option.

New Audi RS5 Coupé to go on sale in June

Audi Sport's new performance coupé gets a 444bhp V6 petrol engine, and will cost from around £63,000

The second-generation Audi RS5 Coupé has been unveiled at the Geneva motor show.

As well as a new twin-turbocharged 2.9-litre V6 petrol engine developing 444bhp (the same as the 4.2-litre V8 in its predecessor), the new performance coupé also gets a new badge, and will be sold under the Audi Sport banner.

Set for UK sale in June, this RS5 has been engineered anew from the ground up. Together with the new engine, the RS5 Coupé also adopts a new platform that sees it grow in size over the seven-year-old model it replaces. Further developments include a new chassis featuring a five link front and rear suspension coupled to Audi Sport’s Dynamic Ride Control system offering variable damping control.

Distinguishing the RS5 Coupe from other recently introduced second-generation A5 Coupe models are a series of traditional RS exterior styling cues. They include a wider single frame grille featuring a high gloss black honeycomb insert, a new front bumper sporting larger air ducts and an intricate splitter element and headlamps with tinted graphics for the standard LED projectors.

Further back, the front fenders have been widened by 15mm and feature so-called quattro blisters together with additional vertical air ducts along the outer edges of the headlamps. The exterior mirrors get a carbon fibre optic and the side sills have been widened with high gloss black elements to reflect the added performance potential of Audi Sport's latest two-door performance car.

At the rear, the RS5 Coupé receives wider rear fenders extending out some 15mm more than on the standard A5 with more pronounced quattro blisters, a subtle boot deck lid spoiler, a uniquely styled bumper housing a prominent diffuser in high gloss black and two signature oval tailpipes.

The latest RS model rides on standard 19-inch wheels, with 20-inch wheels offered as an option. Two additional styling packages in either high gloss black or matt aluminium are also available. As part of a weight saving initiative, Audi Sport also offers the new RS5 Coupé with a carbon fibre roof, which is claimed to contribute to a 60kg reduction in kerb weight over the old RS5 Coupé despite a 74mm increase in overall length for the new model.

New V6 powerplant

The twin-turbocharged 2.9-litre V6 used by the new RS5 Coupe was developed in an engineering cooperation between Audi and its Volkswagen Group sister company, Porsche. The 90-degree unit is already employed in the second-generation Porsche Panamera S, where it delivers 434bhp and 405lb ft of torque. With unspecified changes, it gains 10bhp and 37lb ft, producing 444bhp and 442lb ft of torque between 1900 and 5000rpm in the new Audi Sport model.

By comparison, the naturally aspirated 4.2-litre V8 multi-point injected engine used by the old RS5 Coupe delivered the same 444bhp and 317lb ft at a much higher 4000rpm.

The reduction in kerb weight helps to provide the new 1655kg 2017-model-year RS5 Coupe with a power-to-weight ratio of 268bhp per tonne, or some 9bhp per tonne more than the old 1715kg first-generation RS5 Coupe, on sale in the UK since 2010.

In a further change to the new Audi’s driveline, the latest RS5 Coupe forgoes the seven-speed dual clutch gearbox of its predecessor for an eight-speed torque converter equipped automatic from German specialist, ZF. It is allied to the latest version of Audi’s quattro four-wheel drive system that apportions drive in a rear wheel biased 40:60 split and also comes with an optional sport differential offering a torque vectoring effect for the rear wheels.

Audi claims a 0-62mph time of 3.9sec, which is 0.6sec faster than the old RS5. Top speed is nominally limited to 155mph, though buyers can extend with to 174mph by optioning the new Audi with a so-called dynamic package.

Inside, the new Audi Sport model receives a full compliment of traditional RS interior appointments, including a unique RS display for the digital instrument graphics, a flat bottom multi-function steering wheel, heavily contoured sport seats and stainless steel pedals.

Prices for the Audi Sport RS5 Coupé are due to start from around £63,000.

Sounds a little soft though - but I guess that's the price of a turbo V6.
 
My dream car under R1.5m :twisted:. I'd take this over an M4 or C63 any day. All the old RS5 needed was more low down grunt and this has 600nm from 1900rpm oh yea!

Audi RS5 Coupé arrives sporting a fresh V6 mill

The Audi RS5 Coupé has been revealed in Geneva sporting a twin-turbo 2,9-litre V6 borrowed from the Porsche Panamera.

The Ingolstadt automaker says the new RS5 Coupé is the first car to bear a new design language that will be introduced to the rest of the Audi Sport range, claiming that inspiration for its styling was drawn from the 1989 Audi 90 quattro IMSA GTO.

Purposeful accents are provided by the RS-specific diffuser insert, the oval tailpipes and the front lip. The RS 5 Coupé rolls as standard on 19-inch wheels, with 20-inch wheels available as an option.

With a length of 4 723 mm, the new RS 5 Coupé is 74 mm longer than the previous model. It furthermore boasts an overall weight reduction of up to 60 kg.

The new 2,9-litre TFSI mill delivers 331 kW and 600 N.m to the quattro all-wheel-drive system through an eight-speed tiptronic torque converter transmission, with a 40:60 front-rear power distribution. The result of this is a claimed 0-100 km/h time of 3,9 seconds and a limited top speed of 250 km/h (a figure that can, of course, be increased to 280 km/h if you tick the right box).

Options for the new RS5 Coupé include a rear sport differential, sports suspension with active damping, ceramic brakes, progressive steering and the usual interior specifications, such as the virtual cockpit (which displays information such as torque outputs, g-force levels and optimal shift points).

The new RS5 Coupé is expected to be released in Germany this in June and reach South African shores by the fourth quarter of this year.

Audi has used the Geneva Motor Show to reveal the potent RS5 Coupe. Take a look at the details…

The new Audi RS5 Coupe is currently on display at the Geneva Motor Show and isthe first Audi Sport model to feature the new RS design idiom.

The new RS5 Coupe packs a punch with power outputs of 331 kW and 600 Nm of torque developed by its all-new 2.9-litre biturbo V6 petrol engine. Those numbers are laid to the tar using Audi’s quattro all-wheel drive system and an 8-speed tiptronic transmission. The sprint from zero to 100 kph takes 3.9 seconds and a top speed of 280 kph is possible with the optional dynamic package. Audi claims a fuel consumption figure of 8.7 L/100 km, representing an improvement of 17% over the previous model.

Key features

The design of the RS5 Coupe draws inspiration from the Audi 90 quattro IMSA GTO and is 77 mm longer and some 60 kg lighter than the previous model. The front-end design features large honeycomb air intakes set alongside the large single frame grille that’s wider and flatter compared with the standard base model. Lateral air intakes and outlets are seen next to the headlights and the bulging wheel arches have been widened by some 15 mm.

Additional performance addenda include an RS-specific diffuser insert, surface-mounted spoiler lip and an RS exhaust system with oval tailpipes. The RS5 Coupe rides on 19-inch wheels as standard while 20-inch wheels are offered as an option and Sonoma green metallic can be specified for the exterior.

Traction is optimised with a 40:60 drive force distribution over the axles and a rear sport differential will be offered as an option. The standard RS Sport suspension comprises an updated 5-link suspension on the front axle while the rear axle now features a 5-link suspension, replacing the previous trapezoidal-link suspension. This setup is also offered with Dynamic Ride Control (DRC), ceramic brakes and dynamic steering with RS-specific tuning.

Interior details

The sporty interior is in black with RS sports seats that can be had in optional Fine Nappa leather with diamond stitching. RS logos are seen on the seats, flat-bottomed RS multifunction sport steering wheel, door sills and on the gear lever. Audi’s virtual cockpit is fitted and also features special RS displays showing tyre pressure, torque and g-forces.

MMI navigation plus with MMI touch is optional with Audi connect and Apple CarPlay and Android Auto can be accessed using your smartphone. Audi says, “as many as 30 driver assistance systems enhance safety, comfort and efficiency. The intelligent interplay between these systems represents another step on the road to piloted driving.”

The Audi RS5 Coupe can be expected in South Africa in the fourth quarter of 2017. Also, the new A5 and S5 Coupe is launching in South Africa later this month, so look out for details coming your way soon.

Eight more Audi Sport models are on the way

The Audi Sport range is about to get bigger than it has ever been before according to current managing director Stefan Winkelmann. This is part of a strategy to make Audi Sport more prevalent among the likes of Mercedes-AMG and BMW M.

“Audi Sport is a great brand; it’s very focused, so we are having a lot to do. We have a lot of cars in the pipeline, we will launch eight new models by the end of the year 2018.” Winkelmann told the audience at Geneva this year.

Included in this line-up could very well be the RS3 Sedan, RS4 Avant, RS5 Coupe and Sportback, RS6 Avant and RS7 Sportback. An RS Q3 and RS Q8 are also assumed to form part of this extensive lineup to satisfy the performance SUV fans. The TT RS is already available in international markets so this model isn’t included in this update.

“Quattro, in our opinion, after 25 years was not really saying that much to the people, and Audi Sport is a headline to everything that is under the umbrella of sportiness inside Audi.” Winkelmann added as a critical point towards Audi’s previous performance branch; Quattro GmbH.

The full range will be complete by the end of 2018. The aforementioned line up also excludes all ‘S’ models which do add to Audi Sport’s presence, but on a smaller scale.
