The Audi Thread

3.0tdi is definitely not lazy.
When I was looking around for 1.8T I found my 3.0tdi for same price, but 2 years older.
Had it for 40 000km now (134000km odo) and only issue was dpf. But that was a cheapish fix.
From my research and discussions with various mechanics the 3.0tdi is pretty bulletproof.

Must admit when I drove a 2.0tdi the other I missed my car.
S-TRONIC Gearbox Badprop?

Why would you send it for 120 000km service at 102 000km?

Surely it would go for the 100 000km service then?

It's not like you can just skip the 120k service when it gets to 120k...then you would need to service it for something else again?

More than likely preventative maintenance, or because an issue has arisen.

Otherwise it would just be a yearly oil/filter change, that or every 10,000 - 15,000km.

Yeah an annual service would make sense...but then you call it an annual service surely?

Preventative maintenance doesn't amount to a service. You take it in to fix that problem...then you take it in again at service time when it has racked up the mileage or done the time.

I've found that 'service' is a broad term when it comes to vehicles. The lay person is unlikely to understand it in the same way we would. 'Service' seems interchangeable with 'repair'.

Seeing as the OP (who I'm not implying is lay, at all) has received no feedback from the stealerships, it seems like this could be more a repair than a service, or preventative maintenance.

last two services were done yearly, hence it was the 120 000km service. thats how it works, thats the little block they fill in in the maintenance book.
if you ask for the maintenance schedule come service time that s the lingo

Yeah it makes sense like that.

You should have just said it's the annual service. :)

And drive more dammit! You paid money for that thing!

Dealer pricing? Bit too high for private IMO. Though not too bad.

If you're interested then you need the full service history PDF which Audi can give you if you supply them with the VIN number. Pay attention to what's been claimed from the warranty, any recurring issues, etc.

You can then use the VIN number to get a full report on the car and any accident/insurance claims if you're sceptical. Costs about R100 and I've forgotten the site.

I would check the discs for any big lips at the edge which mean they'll need replacement soon. About R800 each if using aftermarket parts. About R2,000 - R2,500 each from Audi. Brakes could get done with them.

Also check out the suspension. Check the control arms' upper and lower links, and bushes. About R10,000 for the front using aftermarket, or R20,000 from Audi.

I'd also look at a third party warranty because of the S-tronic. Just in case.

Okay so managed to get some info out of Audi SA, car has FSH with their dealer. Last service on 90 000kms. They could not give me much due to the new Data protection act, but the gent mentioned everything replaced was marked as general maintenance. The largest item replaced was the mechatronic @ 75 000km's this had me a bit worried. I have however found a really good 3rd party warranty for around R15K that covers just about everything.

I don't believe that and smell bs. Did you phone the dealership with the VIN number and speak to someone about emailing you the service record?
